Meet Rally, a little 5-year-old pony/miniature horse mix. He was discovered on a 90-degree day in August by a TVA worker who was inspecting electrical towers. Rally was tied in a field near one of the towers in the broiling sun, with no water in sight, and he was tangled in the rope with which he was tied.
Animal Control was contacted by the worker, and when they arrived it was evident Rally had endured long-term neglect. He was extremely thin with all of his bones prominently showing and multiple scars were evident on his small back. His body score was determined to be a 1 out of 9 on the Henneke scale, meaning he was severely emaciated.
Animal Control contacted us, and when we arrived it appeared that Rally was not far from death. He was listless and had no interest in anything. Had he given up? Were we too late? Once we began to lead him towards our horse trailer, his pace quickened. It was as if he knew he was getting a second chance at a better life.
After an intake evaluation by UT College of Veterinary Medicine, and receiving a negative Coggins test, he was released and on his way to Hooves & Feathers Farm Animal Humane Society to begin his road to rehabilitation. His vet bill totaled $370.60
Now two months later, Rally has begun to flourish. He will always carry scars on his back from being ridden when he was too thin, but now he is up to weight and has a pep to his step that befits a healthy young horse.
Please consider giving towards Rally's vet bills on #GivingTuesday!
