Stonewall is honored to present Amy Elaine Wakeland with the Anne Marie Staas Ally Award. Tickets to our annual Stoney Awards event are on sale now on our website. ️️️
Amy Elaine Wakeland is a political strategist, public policy expert, and an advocate for children and families. She is active with organizations and campaigns focused on combating sexual and domestic violence, empowering women and girls, and serving our city’s most vulnerable residents — especially homeless women.
Amy has led multiple efforts to grow girls’ participation in the city’s sports and fitness programs — from a new camp that pairs young women with active duty LAFD female firefighters, to the Girls Play L.A. program, which gets girls involved in sports at an early age to learn leadership skills, gain self-esteem, and stay fit.
She also led successful efforts to fund and complete the City’s first-ever data-driven analysis of the status of women and girls, and worked to expand the city’s Domestic Assault Response Teams (DART) to every police division in the city. DART is now a universal city program for the first time since its inception.
Stonewall is proud to honor Amy with its Anne Marie Staas Ally Award, named after longtime Stonewall Democratic Club Steering Committee member and staunch ally to the LGBTQ community Anne Marie Staas Niedorf. It is given to a person who, while not a member of the LGBTQ community, has worked to promote the advancement of LGBTQ equality and feminist ideals. Previous recipients include Christine Pelosi, Jane Fonda, Dr. Jo Olson, and Abbe Land
