Every season comes with its lessons.
Lessons are all around us, if only we were to open our mind’s eye. As I sat down to meditate I couldn’t help but feel annoyed at a man who was very rudely shouting at another person , he was so loud I could hear him quite clearly sitting indoors. First few minutes seemed hard to sink into. I tried to recall the words and wisdom of a yoga teacher who once said - to meditate was not to be free of thought but to be aware. And you can start by becoming aware of your breathe, the sounds and smells in the background and by simply observing your thoughts. As I went deeper into silence I heard the heaviness of my breath,drilling machines, people going about their work, dogs barking and the man still screaming amongst many other things. Eventually everything merged into a buzzing sound, nothing seemed like noise anymore. I did not feel attached to the emotion I felt when I first heard the screaming man. And as memories, people and ideas popped into my mind I let them stay, forgave myself and them, prayed for those suffering and sent my strength and light into the universe. No sounds, smells, attachments, memories, thoughts, emotions anymore. But that is not where I started, I had to first become aware to be able to let it go. And all this in simply 30 minutes. The true benefits of meditation need to be applied beyond those 30 minutes into every second of our breathing lives, I believe life and death will merge there and we will live fearlessly and freely.
