Heinz, my mum's partner and companion of 28 years lost his battle with cancer on Tuesday.
He was a quiet, highly intelligent man, but had suffered from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma for at least 15 years (or more), for which he successfully had chemo 8 years ago. But it was only a matter of time before the cancer came back and 2 years ago he had the first signs of recurrences, that only got worse. He was cut open various times in the last 2 years to see what was going on inside of him, but all the specialists were left scratching their heads, not knowing what to do. This was mainly due to him not only having non-Hodking's lymphoma, but also Morbus Hodkin's (Hodkin's lymphoma), and these two combined are extremely rare - they don't normally occur together in the same body in the same person.
The worst thing is that he suffered so much this last month, being in and out of hospital and even being put into an artificial coma after he started coughing up blood, and my mum just wishes that it could have been over for him before now and that he had not suffered so much before his death. But at least he is free of all pain now... Heinz loved Lanzarote and together with my mum they visited here countless times. This slideshow is my memorial to him, of so many photos that I took over the years of the good times we had together. You will be missed very much. Rest in peace now, Heinz... #death #grief #grieving #bereavement #cancer #family #mum #lanzarote #neverforgotten #alwaysmissed #rip #restinpeace #companion #lebensgefährte #morbushodgkin #nonhodkinslymphoma #hodkinslymphoma #forever #lettinggo #cureforcancer
