“This crypt is dedicated to St. Lucy of Syracuse, one of the last victims of the Christian persecutions under the reign of Diocletian, 304, AD. According to history books, this young Christian woman was a member of a noble and rich family of Syracuse. She dedicated her life to God, but her mother already promised her to a young man. Her fiancé, learning about her vow of chastity, and seeing the dowry escaping from him, denounced Lucy to Roman authorities where persecutions of Christians raged. After a long torture, the soldiers cut her head off. Before her death Lucy warned the governor he would be punished. When he heard this, he ordered the guards to gouge out her eyes. This is why St. Lucy is the patron of the blind.
She is celebrated on the 13th of December". We’ve come a long way....Our society is growing together in acceptance, regardless of the oppositions people hold within the moral value of their hearts. We're beginning to respect different beliefs, rather than viewing our own as more valid than the other.
Just because someone follows a difference path in life doesn’t mean they warrant an attack on their character; it just means they’re following their own way, and thus part of the same Ohm in which we are all created ~ equal.
