Happy Thursday y’all! Today is Day 2 of my drive out from California to my new home in Texas. Since we were traveling through the desert today, I smoked one of these Gurkha Havana Legends first thing in the morning.
Appearance and Construction: This is a very nice looking stick! The wrapper was a nice tan color, and felt silky to the touch. There were no big veins, but there was one soft spot. The band also had a great design. I have always thought that Gurkha does a good job with that.
Flavor: It was a little bit difficult getting all the flavors out of this stick since I was smoking it on the road with all the windows down. The first third opened up with dry notes of leather, black pepper, toast, and a hint of citrus. The second third was taken over with notes of wood and nuts. I also had slight notes of dried fruit sweetness in the retrohale that replaced the citrus. The final third took on notes of nuts, citrus, and the pepper came back strong in the finish.
Smoking Characteristics: The draw on this stick was excellent. The burn was not fantastic and needed to be touched up twice, but to be fair, I lit it in the car while driving, so I might have not done the best light starting out, so I won’t mark off on that. The smoke amount from what I could tell was good as well, but that was hard to determine with the air blowing through the car.
Overall Experience: This was a good cigar! The dryness was difficult especially since even at 6 AM when I smoked it, in the desert it was already dry. Other than that, the flavor was good, and I’d definitely have one of these again.
