🍇🍉🍎🥑🍓 #Regram @neweradetroit (SWIPE 👈🏾) #Fasting with #NEDWellnessWednesday | Fasting is when one voluntarily practices a period of time without eating or drinking for spiritual, medical or weight loss reasons. Protesting or raising awareness about a cause are other motives.
Most find that fasting gives mental clarity & sharpens minds. Fasting also lowers blood pressure, primarily during the first week; this results from lower salt intake. It moderates the appetite – leptin levels drop; as you lose weight, your response to leptin signaling INCREASES, making it easier to eat healthier foods & smaller food portions; feeling more satisfied after meals. Other benefits include: healthier immune function & resistance to mental stress. Not to mention your body really needs a break from all the harsh + processed foods we put into it day to day, week to week & year to year!
Fasts can vary, depending on what type you’re doing. Most common types: LIQUID- only drinking fluids & avoiding all solids (i.e., broth, water, or fluids made with water like the #MasterCleanse). WATER FAST- as stated, only permits water. JUICE FAST- usually lasts about 3-5 days. Includes organic, cleansing fruit & vegetable juices. INTERMITTENT FAST- Some alternate periods of fasting to every other day, a few days at a time, or an extended period. Most eat their meals in a small window. Ex: fasting in the morning, giving body time to adjust after sleep. EXTENDED FAST- usually 48hrs or more without eating at all or no solids.
Fasting takes planning & preparation! BEFORE ANY FAST you must get a handle of your schedule, nutrition, usual eating patterns + your stress. Be realistic about your goals & stay hydrated! Before body adjusts, you may experience hunger, irritability, headaches or disorientation, which is common but gets better around Day 4 for extended fasts. #HealthIsWealth! Listen to your body & do your research to find which fast is for you! | *DISCLAIMER: 🚨 Children, pregnant & lactating women or diabetics should avoid fasting unless given the OK by a doctor 🚨 (via @HOODHEALINGHOODOO | #Intuitpreneur )
