Boot Camp for Jax!
So many won't know this but we spend quite a bit of time throughout the year doing bootcamp training where owners and their dogs come for multiple days in a row to really get to work!
Today we had this little monster in who, despite his cute face, is quite a tough cookie to crumble!! Holly and Jax have been to see three other trainers in the past and have travelled over four hours to be here today. Jax is SEVERELY dog reactive when he gets going and also has a human bite history leaving puncture wounds in someone's stomach.... Definitely less than ideal!
We started the first day with his lead walking as always and got that nailed pretty quickly and the rest of the day was spent counter conditioning his response to other dogs. The first time Jax walked past another dog here, Holly was spending all her energy just on trying to stay stood up.
Fast forward to the end of day one and he's walking right past other dogs without any reaction at all. Tomorrow, we'll further solidify the counter conditioning work, build confidence and make the whole game more fun!! His human aggression although it has been severe in the past will be straight forward to fix and he's been in very close proximity with me all day without a muzzle or any protective equipment so it's clear that his behaviour is generalised and not specific as first thought.
Well done both of you on your first day here!!
