When you gotta dance because if you don’t you will scream. | This song is called “Beacon” by #charlesthefirst . My friend @soulstonegatherings introduced me to them . I’m so happy to discover new music thanks to this platform because I’ve been so far removed from it for years. That hasn’t always been the case. In the late 90’s I worked for a music management company that represents some huge names. We were dished out new music on the daily. Music was our life. We breathed it, tasted it and rubbed elbows with it. Showcases, concerts, shows. Late nights, shitty pay, early mornings & incredible coworkers to share it all with. Huge bands brought over from the UK (@coldplay ), Canadian icons like the beautiful @officialsarahmclachlan and young kids flown over from Ontario to develop. The world didn’t know her as @avrillavigne at the time. DJs like @tiesto & @bt , punk bands & even @barenakedladiesmusic . Yes, that was another time, another place and another lifetime ago. After years of all that music buzz I needed QUIET. Radio silence, I guess. Now I mostly listen to radio documentaries or podcasts....except when I hoop...because hooping cuts through the haze and story I told you just now- and takes me to the root of why I love music. It surrounded me even since the womb. Carnival drums in hot Montevideo nights ever since I was in utero, 80’s Duran Duran obsessions, Nirvana & hip hop in the mosh-pits of the 90’s, to now. Music. I love it, because of the wild abandon. In order to make music that actually makes you feel something- the artist needs to let go and feel, be raw and vulnerable. Open themselves up and bleed. What incredible trust that must take. Trust and courage. As they say, no guts, no glory. Hooping brought me back & when I hit my flow state, it’s just me left to love and appreciate it again. #cggphotorawfootage with my #moodhoop #futurehoop .
