Throwing it back to March 10, 2018. This was at @nycruns Frozen Penguin Half in Brooklyn with a backdrop of the Verrazano Bridge. .
This was one of those races I definitely remember for 3 main reasons. .
1️⃣This was my first race back after my very first marathon. .
2️⃣I got a new half PR averaging exactly 8:00 minute miles. .
3️⃣After I crossed the finish line, I realized I had messed up my knee (IT Band) and had to take a couple months off to recover. .
I like reflecting on past races and seeing how far I’ve come since then. It’s amazing how much you can learn and grow in a couple of years. So, one note on each of the points above: .
1️⃣If you’ve just completed your first marathon, my advice to you is to take the time off that you feel your body needs. There’s no reason to rush back if you’re not there yet. .
2️⃣In 2019, I didn’t focus on my half marathon time at all. I tied my PR from this race in 2018 but never beat it. My 2019 half marathons came during stretches where I couldn’t try to compete for a PR. Hey it happens. In 2020, I’m looking forward to crushing this time! .
3️⃣If you’re struggling with IT Band issues, there’s still a link in my bio on what I’ve personally found useful to help with recovery. .
I hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday!
