Wamugi Wellness Challenge Halfway Report
Two Weeks ago, I embarked on a 30-day challenge of 60 Workouts in 30 Days.
It broke down with goals as follows:
- 13 Individual Strength Training Sessions
- 12 Yoga Classes
- 5 @barrysbootcamp Classes
15 Outdoor Runs for a total of 120 Miles
5 Swims for a total of 10,000 yards
5 Spinning Classes
5 Low Intensity Stead State Cardio Sessions (Elliptical, Stairclimber, Treadmill Incline Walking)
Recovery (not published): 4 Rest Days
Progress: 29/60 Workouts completed through 15 days with 2 Full Rest Days
5/13 Strength Training Workouts
5/12 Yoga Classes
2/5 Barry’s Classes (includes Release Class which is not strength focused but rather recovery)
8/15 runs for 55 Miles
2/5 swims for 3500 yards
2/5 Spinning classes
5/5 Low Intensity Steady State Cardio sessions
What I’ve seen in the past 15 days is
a balance in fitness activities that are complimentary to one another and helping my running and overall strength.
I’m an awful swimmer but I think @chrisreid55 was on to something when he shared how it can help athletes. Coming back from a running injury, I’ve found great substitutions to prevent injury but also become options if I were to get injured again. And while I love @soulcycle, I enjoyed another version of Spinning with @lauren_stelmak, @tarek.cotran at @equinox.
Training at @barrysbootcamp, @equinox, running with @sfrrc and with inspiring friends like @heatherilana has me motivated to keep getting better not only as a runner but as a well-rounded athlete.
And if I look at my progress to date, while I may hit the 60 mark, I may miss a few goals while exceeding others.
While this level of fitness is not sustainable for the long haul, I’m looking forward to seeing how I finish the second half of this personal challenge in June and how it helps my @chimarathon training.
