Our latest obsession is the lovely Imogen Fox. Imogen blogs and educates on disability and life with, battling and overcoming eating disorders. Awareness is empowering and we’re in awe of her, providing everyday people with images of a body shape that stands out against the sea of hyper glossy, physically and digitally enhanced bodies that breed feelings on inadequacy amongst us. .
Today we’re reposting her caption from international day for persons with disabilities, because it speaks to some of the harsh realities felt by the disabled community:
“Spent all day thinking about all the reasons I should avoid being the angry Cripple and filling this space with all the frustrations pent up
inside me. And then I realised I can say whatever the fuck I like, so here I am.
Fuck International Day of People With
Disabilities. It's a fucking joke.
Crips, do you think any non disabled people give any shits about us? They grant us one day, to pretend they care, to perform some bullshit
for us. And then we all go back to living in the discrimination and oppression were subjected
to daily. Brilliant.
Do you non disabled people feel better? l'm sso happy for you.
Disabled people don't. We don't feel better at all.
Unless you're engaging with the realities of what Disabled people live through 365 days a year, I'm not fucking interested.
Pay disabled people.
Listen to disabled people.
Understand the politics of disabled people.
Ask disabled people.
Invite Disabled people.
Share the work of Disabled people.
Talk about access.”
