Photo by @andrea_frazzetta | Guatemala, Tikal. The Temple Number V appears in the middle of the forest. Tikal was a capital of the Maya world in ancient times, and it’s easy to believe when you’re confronted with the thousands of massive pyramids, plazas, temples, and dwellings that remain today. Tikal National Park encompasses 575 square kilometres of jungle and thousands of ruined structures.

Photo by Katie Orlinsky @katieorlinsky | Kaliegh Charles collects goose eggs with her family along the Ninglick River in western Alaska. The Charles family live nearby in Newtok, a Yupik village of roughly 380 people. Subsistence-based practices such as gathering eggs, hunting, and fishing are a way of life there, crucial to everything from culture and economy to nutrition and survival. Newtok is also an urgent and extreme example of climate change: The village is sinking as the permafrost beneath it thaws, and it is estimated that in three to five years it could be underwater. The entire village plans to move to a new site nine miles upriver this summer. Alaska native communities like Newtok are inextricably tied to the land, yet will be some of the first communities in the world forced to relocate as a result of climate change.

Play the Game | Photograph by Raceala Elena
#YourShotPhotographer Raceala Elena took this picture of a boy playing football on the beach from the 13th floor of a hotel in the Mamaia resort on the Black Sea Coast of Romania.

“You saw the shadow, the light, the boy and waited for the perfect moment to press your shutter. The boy connects the two realms of light and shadow beautifully in the way his torso is glowing against the shadow but the shadow of his head is striking the highlight. This is just awesome!” — @natgeoyourshot Associate Photo Editor Kristen McNicholas

Hailing from Sydney, Australia, Ocean Alley (@oceanalleyband) describes their music as psychedelic surf rock, a mix of what they like to listen to and what they like to play. 🎸🌠
This weekend, they’re performing at Splendour in the Grass (@splendourinthegrass), a music festival near Byron Bay, Australia. “The music is the main event and between all the stages there’s so much music to see," says the band’s rhythm guitarist, Mitch Galbraith. "But the best part is just enjoying it with friends in a beautiful part of the country.” #SITG2019
