Have you ever thought about the similarities between Zion and Yosemite valleys? One is glacial, one is eroded by a river, but both have huge vertical walls, both are popular with climbers... it’s like Yosemite is a granite version of Zion, or the other way around, but geologically speaking, Zion is older... .
I really enjoyed exploring off the beaten path in Zion this past weekend. The valley is a beautiful place, but even mid week it’s crowded. We did a ridge scramble on Monday, and a cross country hike in the east side of the park Tuesday. It is awesome to go to one of the top five most visited national parks, and not see a single person. It does take a certain amount of preparedness though, navigation skills, extra water, more snacks, first aide, and reliance on each other to make good decisions.
