10. Belong by @sanferminband
San Fermin, the brain child of @ellisludwigleone (thx for the glasses inspo), is a Brooklyn based, self-described "Baroque Pop", 9 member group and Belong is their third LP. The band has two core vocalists, one male and one female, with a nice balance of duets and solo features. I was eagerly awaiting this album due to their tracks Sonsick and Jackrabbit being two of my all time favorites. While no single on this album beats either of those, this album is a very complete and interesting listen. It sounds like two vocalists passing material back and forth. And of course, if you know me, I'm particularly drawn to the horn lines, which are really nicely mixed to support the vocals.
Top tracks; August, Bride, No Promises, Cairo, Better Company and Belong
Favorite Lyric (from No Promises, about the strains of touring): “Wasn't very long ago/We were wolfing down America/Living in the undergrowth/And buzzing in the night”
I recommend listening in track order, as the complexity and chaos of each song escalates, culminating with Dead, a rather abrasive and chaotic song. Also keep an ear open for some consistent imagery through the album: bone, ghost, hair, and roses. I strongly recommend seeing these guys live, one of my top concerts when I saw them at The Haunt in Ithaca in 2016. .
