Say's Phoebe is named after Thomas Say, "the father of American entomology." It's odd for a man who dedicated his life to insects to be eponymous with a creature that dedicates its life to consuming them.
Chased some rarities yesterday cause I'm a little leecher like that. Vermillion Flycatcher in Colquitt and Say's Phoebe near Leesburg. Also Limpkins I'm Albany but I'll share those pics separately. Third pic taken with my phone through the scope
RepostBy @ladzinski: "A #saysphoebe with a freshly caught dragonfly in its beak coming in for a landing on thorny #mesquite bush in south west Utah. I took this in 2009, watching and photographing this nesting pair of birds as they hunted and caught insects for 3 small chicks. To light this photo I used 3 Nikon #sb800s with high speed sync to get a shutter speed fast enough to stop the action here. It took a lot of patience but was a lot of fun - @thetweetsuites@audubonsociety" (via #InstaRepost@AppsKottage)
