This is my favorite treasure from yesterday's day trip to Scott Antique Market! Yep, it is a good ole bag of boiled peanuts. It's not the actual bag of peanuts that is the treasure, it is the sentiment behind it.
There is a sweet little, good ole southern boy that sells veggies, fruit and boiled peanuts outside of the North Building at Scott's. My daughter and I call him "Scupnin", because that's how he pronounces Scupadine, which is actually Scuppernong grapes...down here we call them Scuppanines...😅 we will have a Southern Slang test later! Anyway, I asked Scupnin for a bag of boiled peanuts because that is all my Daddy wants to eat...that and pork'n beans🤦♀️. We chatted a second, as he was scooping the peanuts out of the old metal drum, about my Daddy having Alzheimer's, and that he wants boiled peanuts every single day! Daddy doesn't remember that he eats them everyday though! He gets excited everytime I give him a daily helping, as though he has not eaten them in years.
After our brief chat, Scupnin handed me the bag and I tried to hand him a $5. With the sweetest sincerity he said, "Nope, let me bless you today and give your Daddy a bit of happiness. We all need little blessings." You see, it is the smallest, genuine, heart felt acts that move people...that can be true blessings to others. Scupnin did bless us with his act of kindness. Although a bag of boiled peanuts may not mean much to anyone else, it meant the world to me and Daddy. 💙🥜💙🥜💙🥜💙🥜💙🥜💙🥜💙
