Next week we are launching a new product 🤩 !! Now let me write you a little essay about it cuz that’s how excited I am. I chose vegetable dying because it utilizes food scraps 🥑, plant extracts 🌿and bugs 🐞(COOL), as opposed to traditional, chemical dyes, which fill our waterways with pretty dang awful, super toxic, $h!t 💩. And, Palmar Goods bags are made with natural, compostable fabrics- 100% cotton canvas, and veg tanned leather. But, even with earth conscious products, waste is still a huge issue. The way fabric patterns (for bags, clothing, accessories) work, there is inevitably scrap fabric left over from every item made. (A roll of fabric is one long rectangle… very few patterns are right angles! Even our bags, which LOOK like a rectangle!) We started by making 50 bags. This is the pile of scraps from FIFTY. BAGS. 🙈 WOW. Think about how much scrap fabric is left over from mass produced items? Now imagine it's made of synthetics, like polyester (read: plastic). Got the visual ? ❌🗑❌ ICKY. And that is just from the scraps!!! All these beautiful leftovers 👆🏼 WOULD be destined for landfills, too. But, not uh, not us, not here. Our next product saves these dyed cotton scraps, as well as our leather scraps, and turns them into a beautiful product (that just so happens to be an excellent gift, AND a lower price point!). So stay tuned. And get excited. For your eyes 👀 and the planet 🌎.
