That time of the day. Reflect. One victory today was being a challenge to the norm.
I was subbing today in a class of freshmen and one student told me he wasn't working on work in that particular class because he has an issue with the actual teacher. These lines of thought don't make logical sense to most but I see alot of youth and adults for that matter engaging in this type of behavior. They think by acting in spite of others they are somehow gaining the upper hand. Most often they are feeling something else or embarrassed by an incident and do all they know to do to express themselves. Which hurts them in the long run which they struggle to understand. It's easy to say they need to get over themselves but we must not dimiss these behaviors for they become patterns. Behavior is learned and youth will do as they see. Make sure you are a good example. The reason why certain behavior persists is due to repeat exposure to those examples. What we say matters but what we do matters more. Our society is wrapped in contradiction.
Be kind...but we relish the drama.
Material things dont matter...but we need the latest "it" thing to show others how good we are doing
Love yourself...but buy this to make yourself look better and be accepted
Love is all we need...but good people don't exist
America is great a land of the people...but not all people.
I simply repeated back to the young man what he said and asked that he explain how that benefits him in the long run. We had a coo convo. Will that conversation change the way he navigates school and life? Idk
I hope he is repeatedly expose to good examples from here out.
