Life got the best of me and I haven’t worked out consistently in over 2 months. I’ve been afraid to get back into the groove of it. Fear maybe, fear of looking bad when I’m expected to be super fit, when realistically, I’m just your normal girl who loves a good workout and motivating others to start or continue. A few years ago, the obsession with perfectionism and image would have gotten to me. But I’m chillin’, I got busy, I’m okay that it happened. I know that it’s just a matter of starting back up again and then it’s smooth sailing from there. Whether it’s sickness, work, family or life, we all fall off.
Here are simple ways to get back into your routine:
Realize that falling off is normal and OKAY. Have some self-compassion and don’t beat yourself up for it. This doesn’t necessarily mean you’re not disciplined or weak-willed, it just means that you’re human.
Start with something easy- Whether a brisk walk or light jog. Do what works for you and with what you’re comfortable committing to. Get your mobility back, take it slow and focus on form. Remember how good it makes you feel. Don’t focus too much on the effort of it but rather, the outcome.
Surround yourself with motivation- On social media, follow people who motivate you, start unfriending people taking up your mental real estate. Then in real life, make sure your circle is lifting you up. You are who you surround yourself with, so choose wisely.
Prepare the night before- Have your shoes, outfit, protein shake, water, and post-workout meal ready. Set a goal- Give yourself a timeline of when you want to accomplish something and work towards it! My current goal is simply to get stronger and increase endurance, it’s not all about the weight sometimes! I hope these help! Happy Saturday!
