Inspiring or supercilious???
Many tell me that my insta-blog is a little too diplomatic (code: boring 🤓) and that I should be more provocative...
This week I talked with my students about social media and that they should decide how they want to be perceived as fitness professionals.
💪😇👍 / 💪😈👎
Is it motivational to others to post photos and videos of your training and results?
Is social acceptance determined by whether those results be athletic or aesthetic?
Is it okay to post squats but not six-packs?
That you've been for a run, but not that you've dropped a % bodyfat?
Is it intended to inspire others, or a need for attention and self-confirmation?
Are we building up unrealistic expectations, or showing what is possible with hard work and dedication?
Would you use a trainer who doesn't practice what they preach or who struggles to get results themselves?
Have we become too focused on appearances?
Are we contributing to eating disorders and depression, or are we helping steer the next generation towards an active lifestyle and healthy choices, rather than the current situation of sedentary lifestyles and obesity?
If we are truly honest: regardless of the main priority, how many would continue to train (or train as much) if exercise only affected your strength, endurance and health but with no noticeable change to your body's composition?
Should we judge others by their priorities?
Personally I train because I enjoy the challenge of the process, the feeling of being fit, healthy and being able to partake in exhilarating sports.
However, I must admit that the aesthetic benefits are a strong contributing factor and that I wouldn't be as disciplined (certainly not with my nutrition) if those results weren't visible ⚖
