We are going to try a new segment here on the Florence Marines Page. #FamousFriday! We will be covering the lifetime stars that have served in the Marine corps!
This first one is Orville Richard Burrell, or as he is better known “Shaggy”! @direalshaggy .
That’s exactly right! Before Shaggy even got the chance to make it big with his hit song “wasn’t me” he could definitely be caught red handed in the 10th Marine Regiment as a 0811 (Field Artillery Cannon Crewman). It’s probably why the call him Mr. Boombastic!! He served during the Persian Gulf war where he perfected his ever so iconic singing voice!
If you want to read the full story of Shaggy’s service as a Marine go to https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaggy_(musician). .
If you want to find out how you can start your career off right go to

Honorary battlefield promotion for Actor Gary Sinise on Camp Taji, Iraq. Sinise, who played the role of Lt. Dan in the movie Forest Gump, was honorarily promoted to the rank of captain for his continued support of U. S. servicemembers.
Congratulations to all newly selected Chief Petty Officers!
Today culminates many years of dedicated service -- blood, sweat and sacrifice -- to the nation you've served and the Sailors you’ve led. The anchors you will soon wear represent a tremendous and solemn privilege -- this selection is not a reward for the service you have rendered, but rather a recognition that you are ready for greater responsibility and more accountability. Use this time to reflect on your good fortune, and also to steel yourself for the monumental task that lies ahead! Our Navy will depend on you to ensure we maintain our competitive advantage and remain the world’s most well-trained, combat ready force. Hooyah, Navy Chiefs!
