I was a resolutioner.
Yup. You can swipe and see the first ever "before" photo I put on here in December 2015 (a leetle up close and personal but oh well). I was the heaviest I'd ever been in my life. I was tired of feeling unhealthy. I wrote that I would change, and NEVER look back.
I was right.
If my commitment to fitness were a relationship - I fell hard and fast. Sometimes I didn't know how to show it, or I'd stray from it, but the foundation was always love. However, when I started, I was surrounded by negative posts within the new online community I was discovering. Messages from people who were supposed to be a source of knowledge and inspiration:
Resolutions are stupid. They don't work. You'll fall off anyways. If you were committed you would just do xyz.
Loud and clear captions predicting my, and many others, failure (ironically most of the people saying these things have largely "fallen off" these days). If I would have listened, I'd have given up before I even truly started.
But I kept going. All I knew was that I had found the one thing that quieted my anxious racing thoughts. I followed my own timeline. Perhaps it was the solid layer of fat that hid my body changing over time hahaha, but I let myself fall in love with the process over time versus the end result.
I'm now accepting 4 clients to my exclusive program BAHAHAHA nah man #shady but if you're a fellow resolutioner, you got this. Give yourself time and grace. If you're a person who has the urge to comment on "hating resolutions" or how dumb you think they are - here's an idea: don't 🙃 support is always a better idea. You never know who will keep going and make you look silly.
