Day 345/365: Shark! I decided to fly my drone at the beach before sunset this evening. After seeing some baitfish from the sky, I suddenly felt the urge scan the water with an unrealistic hope of catching a larger fish or passing ray. I flew back and forth along the coastline and suddenly was shocked to see a familiar shape on the screen. I lowered the drone over what appeared to be a 4-7 foot blacktip shark that swam horizontally along the coastline a few hundred feet from shore. Finding a shark so easily helps enforce the fact that dozens of these beautiful creatures pass along our beaches every day. The eye from the sky is simply a tool that enabled me to see what is usually missed from a normal point-of-view. As long as we remain respectful and mindful of the sea life, we can share the space of the ocean and stay safe in the process.
