KENZO Kids celebrates its very own way the Chinese New Year with an exclusive edition for girls and boys.
A very old legend has it that a scary monster called NIAN (Chinese for « year » ») once lived in the mountains a very long time ago. Once a year, he came down after dark to feast on villagers. But luckily, NIAN feared three things: the colour red, fire and noise. When the villagers figured out what the monster’s fears were, they hung scarlet paper to their doors, lit up fire lanterns and took to banging on all sorts of objects so that the clangour would drive the monster away. And the NIAN was never to be seen again.
This is how the Chinese originally celebrated the New Year. And such traditions live on in the shape of poetic rituals: on New Year’s Eve, people pin to the walls of their houses read paper with wishes calligraphed on them, in the evening, firecrackers are fired and the following day, brand new clothes, red ones preferably are donned to attend a performance of the dragon dance, to bring attending villagers good luck throughout the year.
KENZO Kids celebrates its very own way the advent of the Chinese New Year by delivering an exclusive edition of 5 remark- able pieces on which its own version of the legend is rendered in the design: the dragon, a symbol of happiness and prosperousness, pounds to the ground the Nian with the help of the iconic KENZO Tiger.
