Rembrandt Lighting. It’s when you get that triangle of light under the eye. There’s a technical term for everything. And now that you’ve learned about this one, you’ll probably notice it more.
The more filmmaking techniques I learn, the more noticeable they become on screen. I’ll never watch movies the same way again. Next time you watch a tense, dramatic film, enjoy the story. Then watch it a second time and see if you can find any fully-lit faces. You’ll likely notice that most faces are either half-lit, Rembrandt-lit, or completely in the shadows. It’s supposed to look tense and cinematic (contrary to this selfie which just looks like a kid in a room with the light on). #SelfieSunday #Filmmaking #Lighting #CreativityIsOurWeapon
