Eating foods free of harmful additives doesn’t mean completely changing our whole entire lifestyle.  It’s achievable and manageable because mostly, all we need to do to make the change, is to learn some simple food switches.  Removing harmful additives from the foods we eat has changed my family’s lives, yet we don’t miss out.  Try this simple switch for happier and healthier families.
Maple syrup is a staple in most homes, especially if we are sugar free.  Maple flavoured syrup can contain preservatives, colourings and flavourings – a concoction of chemicals best avoided! Where as, Maple syrup is pure and contains one ingredient! Maple syrup! An ingredient that some brands of Maple Syrup don’t even contain.
Let’s take a look at just one example of the additives found in Maple ‘flavoured’ syrup? Preservatives.
Preservatives found in Maple flavoured syrup, particularly Sorbates and Benzoates can have some nasty side effects and are best avoided.  It has been reported that these types of preservatives can cause a variety of adverse reactions including, eczema and other skin irritations, eye and nasal irritation, irritable bowel symptoms and children’s behavioural problems. Preservatives have also been reported as an asthma trigger among many other reported symptoms.

Reports have shown that by removing these additives along with other harmful additives that many children are able to see life changing improvements in both health and well being.
Why are additives particularly a concern for children?
Children are more likely to show side effects to additives, such as Preservatives because the amount of food and drink consumed relative to their body weight.  Their tiny little bodies and organs can have difficulty processing high doses of chemicals found in the foods we eat today; their tiny little bodies and organs that are still developing.
Choose pure 100% maple syrup over Maple ‘flavoured’ syrup, the extra dollars is worth it to remove the harmful additives.

People often think you have to “diet” to lose weight. Well let me tell ya, that’s far from the truth. I am a huge foodie, my ideal day would be going around the city trying all the local cuisines and craft cocktails. And you know what, I can do that and still be on track for my wellness goals. Because it’s not about restrictions, it’s about balance and healthy habits. 🙌🏼Switching out empty carbs for complex carbs, drinking lots of water (even if it’s between cocktails) and being active. Simple as that, seriously 🤯I still eat my pizza and tacos, maybe not everyday like I would like 😂, but I never deny myself my favorites. Once you get into the routine of a healthy lifestyle and fall in love with real, fresh foods...you won’t even miss that artificial crap filled with preservatives...promise! 😘PS. Margarine can contain preservatives, harmful antioxidants, flavours and colours.  Some margarine’s even contain Annatto 160b, which is a natural colour, however it has been reported to have the same and even more severe health and behavioural reactions than artificial colours.  A little swipe of margarine on toast for breakfast in the morning, on your bread for sandwiches at midday and a dollop in mashed potato at night could be contributing to a whole range of unwelcome side effects in your family!
What are some of the reported side effects of the additives that can be found in margarine? • Behavioural issues, such as defiance • Headaches and even head banging in children • Asthma trigger • Skin irritations and rashes • Irritable bowel • Learning difficulties • Poor attention • Sleep issues

Raw pumpkin coconut bliss balls, for a no-bake easy treat. .
2 cups oat flour
1/2 nut or seed butter
1/2 cup sesame seeds
1/2 cup pumpkin puree
1/4 cup maple syrup
1 tsp vanilla
1 tbsp cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice .
Mix it up, roll them up, and let them chill.. in the fridge for up to a week. .

Organic stone ground whole wheat pizza!! Toppings galore!! What a treat, taste so good, and not half bad (nutritionally). .
Stone ground organic wheat is only a partially processed grain, leaving a lot of the fibre still intact but it rises like wheat to make beautiful thick crust or crispy thin crust pizza!

Partially intact, or even better completely intact grains are beneficial to your microbiome and digestive track so try taking 1 thing in your cupboard, you can make a simple switch of. Quick oats to old fashioned oats or steel cuts, white flour to whole wheat or even better stone ground wheat, or simply look for an organic version or the grains you eat the most... .
Changes don't have to be drastic, they have to be sustainable in your life. .

To say this morning was a challenge is the understatement of the century. It’s pretty difficult to break up a fight between toddlers when they can’t hear you.😂🙈

So I’ve been oiling up, resting my voice and drinking this incredible tea to soothe my throat. Oil’s are incredible because they’re able to penetrate your cell walls and help you to feel better sooner.

🌱Green Tea
🌱Lemon juice
🌱1 TBSP natural cough syrup

🤧Cough Syrup Recipe
💧2 TBSP local raw honey
💧2 drops On Guard
💧2 drops Lemon
💧1 drop Ginger
💧1 drop Peppermint
💧Mix and use a small amount in your tea or as a cough syrup.

Just a quick sidenote, I don’t use this cough syrup for the boys. I do make them one as well, but I don’t add peppermint and I add more honey.

I cannot believe how much my eyelashes have grown. I’ve definitely been keeping track of how much I love and noticed how just having switched mascara has done wonders for my lashes. Where they once where thinning and constantly eye itching , don’t forget the eye infections when I forget to wash my makeup off. Thank goodness that’s over . Right now, this is our reality...for now. Pills, pills, and more pills..and our supplements, too.
This is how the healthcare system works: throw a pill at every symptom, even though the side effects are usually more dangerous (or deadly) than the initial symptom! Some medications are absolutely necessary, don't get me wrong. Pharmaceuticals have saved many, many lives. I'm talking about the idea of popping a Rx pill for every sniffle or cough.

My plan is to do away with as many prescriptions as possible, in the near future. If there is a natural, holistic method that can replace all of the unknown chemicals that I choke down every day, I'm going to be all over it! That's what we take supplements and probiotics for.

It just takes one step at a time, replacing one thing for another. Right now, I'm working on replacing my caffeine intake with freshly-squeezed lemon 🍋💦water. It's helping to alkalize my body's ph level, so it's not too acidic. Too much acidity in the body can cause inflammation and a host of other problems. One little switch, but it will make a huge difference!

Many of us are familiar with Lemon, Peppermint and Lavender as a trio that works phenomenally to support our body through the shifts in the seasons. Did you know you you can also use it when your head is all stuffed because your throat hurts and it feels like you can’t stop coughing? You can! And not only can you do it. It works awesome!

There are a number of ways you can use these:
🌱Add a drop of each to your (glass or metal) water bottle and drink throughout the day
🌱add 2 drops of each to a shot glass of water and gargle a few times a day
🌱10-12 drops of each in a roller bottle topped with Fractionated coconut oil and apply to your 2 middle toes multiple times a day. This is a great option for your kiddos as well!
🌱Triease Softgels morning and night. If you don’t have the pills you can make your own! 2 drops of each Lavender, Peppermint and Lemon in a veggie capsule morning and evening with food.

Whichever your preferred method of use - be consistent! Consistency is key when it comes to your oils!

Asher is at this age where his imagination runs wild. He is also obsessed with Halloween and the “ghosts that go ooooo”. There are often times he wakes up telling us about his dreams in the middle of the night. So - before I left this weekend I made him a Bye Monsters blend that he can use before bed and again if he wakes up at night. I hate the bought of not being there to snuggle him when he wakes up so I made sure he knew how to use it and to show Daddy where it was.

In a 10ml roller blend:
5 drops Ylang Ylang
5 drops Lavender
3 drops Vetiver
5 drops Juniper Berry

I agree when people say tofu is totally bland... such a wonderful thing! To be able to be spice rubbed and baked, crumbled and scrambled, blended to create cheesecakes, whipped to make sour creams and sauces, and take on pretty much any flavour you add to it.. .
Tofu is a good source of protein and contains all nine essential amino acids. It is also an excellent source of iron and calcium and the minerals manganese, selenium and phosphorous. In addition, tofu is a good source of magnesium, copper, zinc and vitamin B1.

Tofu also contains isoflavones such as phytoestrogens which may indeed help an estrogen domanance. Those isoflavones can bind to the estrogen receptors, potentially blocking the activity of the more potent estrogen hormone. Isoflavones may have both estrogen-agonist or estrogen-antagonist properties. These may help protect against some cancers, heart disease, and osteoporosis.

Okay so it's actually acting like fall now... Cooler days means a warmer kitchen.. Portabella and shiitakes barley soup. Warm, super easy to make and no need for stock broth for this flavourful dish..
1 portabella
2 dried shiitakes
1 sweet potato
1 carrot
1 sm onion
2 cloves garlic
2 cups pot barley
Rosemary, sage, oregano, sea salt to taste .

These sunny little oat and seed bars power me through my morning. I know exactly what went into them, and dependant on the nut & seed count there are 5 ingredients, all of them being things we might eat on their own... as food....real food..

Sunflower seeds
Almond butter
Maple syrup
Plant mylk

That's it, that all, put it in a dish and mix it up, pour it in a pan and press it down, 20-25 mins in the oven at 300°...
