Just posing with a bowl of food scraps 🤷♀️ cause today we’re talking about reducing food waste by composting!
What do you do with the peels, ends and other veggie scraps from your meals? You should totally try composting them!
When food is thrown in the trash and ends up in a landfill, it breaks down veryyyy slowly. Like 25 years for a head of lettuce, slowly. And in that time it’s breaking down at a snails pace, it puts off methane, which is a greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. No bueno. Especially when there’s such an easy solution: composting!
Composting is the process of food breaking down and becoming a nutrient rich soil that can be used to fertilize your garden or house plants.
According to Project Drawdown, “worldwide implementation of composting can reduce emissions by 2.3 billion tons over the next 30 years.” You can compost:
🌱veggie peels, scraps, ends, extra leaves...etc
🌱produce that’s gone bad before you could eat it
🌱paper & leaves
🌱tea leaves + coffee grounds
Switching to composting is a huuuuge way to cut down on your trash, and your trash can won’t stink anymore cause you won’t have gross dying food in there!
I’m talking about the different ways to compost for your situation - whether you’re in a home with a yard or an apartment, on the blog! Link in bio.
