Next time you visit Las Vegas, be sure to plan a meal at Saga Pastry + Sandwich. Owned and created by Norwegian chef Gert Kvalsund from Sunnmøre, the menu is all about Norwegian and Scandinavian delicacies. Our favorite without a doubt, is the Smorgasbord Sandwich, which has won Gert many awards in the competitive Las Vegas culinary scene. An open-faced gigantic sandwich based on the traditional Norwegian “landgang” concept, this delicious experience leaves you full, yet not stuffed. Fresh high-quality ingredients makes the difference, with everything from Atlantic shrimp to egg and Norwegian salmon on top of a delicious home-baked bread, sliced along and not across the loaf. Gert also collaborates with other Norwegian food specialists in the U.S., including Nordic Waffles (Saint Paul, MN) and Norwegian Baked crisp bread (Brooklyn, NY).
Prior to starting Saga Pastry + Sandwich, Gert spent over 25 years in Las Vegas where he among other endeavors was Executive Chef at the Flamingo Casino, in charge of 20,000 meals per day, and with a kitchen staff that at one point included 18 Norwegians, many of whom have gone on to successful chef careers in Norway. 🇳🇴
Thank you Gert, it was great to meet you and experience your restaurant. We sure could use one of your restaurants in Los Angeles!
