What gifts are you seeking today, the gifts of the world or the gifts of God? A Course in Miracles teaches us that there are only these two choices and that we’re always, consciously or unconsciously, choosing one. When we’re not seeking love, which is God, we’re seeking fear, which from a Course perspective simply means the absence of love, or God. Seeking the gifts of the world means seeking nothing then, as the world is built on the illusion of our separation from God. Have you ever done something you really wanted to do but when you did it it didn’t feel as good as you thought it would, leaving you with a sense of emptiness inside? When we seek the gifts of the world, what we seek is the absence of everything we really are and anything that can truly fulfill us. That is to say, if you want a miracle don’t turn to the world, turn to God.
Whatever you decide to do today, the deeper invitation is to bring awareness to the purpose you’re giving to it. May whatever you do today be in service to the light of the world in you. May it uplift the world and bring peace and joy to all its creatures. It’s okay to not know how this will be done. God knows how to make planets spin and babies grow, how to transform caterpillars into butterflies and seeds into plants, He’ll know how to use your actions for his purposes. But He cannot take from you what you would not give to him. This is why we pray. Prayer, the Course says, is the medium of miracles. We pray to ask for God to use us, that we may be a force of love, not fear.
