Handmade soap is different compared to most shop bought soaps, which are made from surfactants and detergents. Synthetic surfactants are harsher on the skin, and can strip the skin of moisture. Handmade soap is made with natural oils & butters and produces lather naturally; that’s why it’s good for sensitive skin, and why commercial soap can leave the skin feeling dry. While handmade soap has many skin benefits, one downside is that it does not last as long in the shower as soap made from surfactants and detergents. If the soap sits in water for too long, it will become mushy and soft. The best solution to avoid the soap from coming in contact with water excess, is to keep it on a soap rack, which elevates soap, allowing the water to drain.
