Finally posting my review of this after like, two months
My rating: 3/5 stars
Before I start my review: I received this as an ARC from the author. She gave it to me about a month before the book actually came out, but because of the school work for my senior year, I was not able to finish it in time before it came out. The name of the book is Midnight Castle by Prem K. Kaur and it is the first in the Souls of Darkness series.
First, the characters that play a big role in the story are:
Robyn - the protagonist
Dante - Robyn's love interest (also Benjamin's body guard)
Nora - Robyn's sister
Joy - Dante's sister (also a vampire)
Benjamin - Main vampire (also the antagonist)
Mr. John - Old guy (human) that lives in the castle
Let's start with the positives:
I really liked the basic plot line of the story. The whole idea of Robyn thinking her sister was dead to finding out she was alive and trying to save her is a really great plot, in my opinion. I also do like the twist at the end of the book, and I am curious to find out what happens next.
I also really enjoyed a lot of the characters. I thought that most of them were well written and enjoyable. I especially loved Joy and Mr. John. I thought they were really great and I loved the banter between Joy and Dante
I thought that Benjamin was well written as the sort of antagonist/villain of the story. I could really feel the evil from him through the story and feel the uneasiness whenever he came into the story.
Now the negatives:
I didn't like how the relationship between Dante and Robyn felt like an on again, off again couple. It just kind of annoyed me. I just wanted them to either be together or not, not just keep going back and forth.
Another thing about their relationship that I didn't really like was that it kind of felt like instalove to me.
Would I recommend this? Tentatively saying yes. If vampires are your thing, then go for it! You might like it
Also, as this was an ARC, there were mistakes and those did not go into consideration when I chose my rating for this book. Thank you so much to @authorpremk for giving me an ARC of this book!
