Wanted to share this Gerrardanthus macrorhizus I picked up exactly a month ago from my friends at @botanicwonders ✨ If you want a #caudiciform plant that grows quick and isn’t too fussy, this is your gal! Another native to #SouthAfrica the water/nutrient filled caudex can reach 2-4 feet wide in the wild and the vines as much as 20-30 feet! Train the vines around an arch or trellis for a nice decorative look, or in my case she will be allowed to vine around the wire plant shelf that sits at the perimeter of the very well lit #IndoorGarden. During the warm/growing season provide plenty of water and regular fertilization and watch how fast these grow! This one is in our ‘mellow mix’ potting soil blend with lava rock at the bottom to further provide a WELL DRAINING medium. You don’t want the soil to stay wet as the caudex will be susceptible to rot, the well drained soil allows you to provide a good deep watering about once weekly and I feed via our Botanical Tonics foliar spray once weekly at full strength for this hungry girl. All the leaves/vines get sprayed too and bottom as well as the caudex itself and the topsoil. It only took 1-2 weeks from a bare root transplant to become established and in the last 2 weeks she has grown over 24”!! Love watching the tendrils each day wrap and twist tight around anything it can to secure itself as it grows ever upward. Like other #Caudiciform Gerrardanthus m. is actually dioecious so you would need both a male and a female specimen to make seeds! ✨ Whether it is via soil drench or foliar spray fertilize all your #caudex, #succulents & #houseplants with our 100% organic, natural, cold extracted, plant derived Botanical Tonics which also has you covered for pest prevention all in one! ✨🙌 #PlantMedicine for #Plants!
