All of these great coaches i listed in these pics were great coaches operating off of one key principle, they wasn’t there to be players friends. They were there to Coach their sport. Coaches who often have the I Need My Kids mindset or I Want To Be The Kids Friend because they don’t want to offend the players already have a disadvantage. Most of the good players I’ve seen over the years aren’t interested in being buddy buddy with the coach. Why? Because their level of maturity communicates to them why they are their coach and usually a good athlete wants to prove why they are the one for the position instead of looking for a hand out because they know that their work should hold more weight. I remember being up at Monacan High School meeting with the then #1 ESPN Ranked Basketball Player in the Country Megan Walker in her senior year with 2 State Championships up under her belt at that time and she said to me - Let Me Go Ahead And Leave Because Coach Starr Don’t Be Playing About Being Late To Practice. This is lady basketball and the ESPN #1 Ranked Basketball Player in The Country, most mindsets would think hey that person probably can do whatever they want to do! WRONG!!!!! A good coach is always going to have the respect and effort from their players and the good players are always going to bring the effort and respect needed to be considered a good player! I tell people all of the time that Hard Core Coaches raise Hard Core Players and Soft Coaches raise Soft Players!
