Ferrari 512 TR (1991-1994)
The Ferrari 512 TR retained the Testarossa’s dramatic design language, when it replaced it in 1991. Although it retained the flat-12 powerplant with improved internals, it made the 512 TR quicker and more powerful than the Testarossa, while a revised weight distribution made it more stable under full throttle.
As a result, the power was upped to 428hp and 362 pound-feet of torque, a 43-horsepower increase over the Testarossa. It could blast from 0 to 60 mph in only 4.8 seconds, versus the Testarossa’s 5.2sec, while top speed was increased from 180 to 195 mph.
The engine mated to an updated version of the Testarossa’s five-speed manual gearbox with a new single-plate clutch and sliding ball bearings for easier gear shifting.
Compared to its predecessor, the 512 TR was short lived, being produced for only three years (compared to the Testarossa’s seven-year run). The 512 TR kept most of the Testarossa’s design features, including the trademark side strakes and the ultra-wide rear track and fenders.
