SkillsUSA Arizona's State President, Xiamara Garza from Kofa High School, shares how the Framework of SkillsUSA has prepared her for the workforce! “Being in SkillsUSA and my Culinary class has helped me develop a keen sense of communication, and how to effectively use it. As a key part of the framework under Workplace skills, communication allows me to engage in team activities, and helps me become more commutative in my daily life. Joining culinary, I thought all I was going to do was cook. Every couple of weeks, my teacher began switching our seats, so we had diverse groups to work with in the kitchen. I was taught that in the restaurant industry, you can't expect to work with the same group forever. You don’t have the ability to choose your colleagues; you should learn how to work with everyone. I didn't understand what that meant at first, but over time, I finally did. It became easier to work with those around me, even if i had just met them.”

Ariana is extremely honored to be serving as the Vice President of Community Service this year and she cannot wait to see what the year holds in store. She is the oldest child of four and she plans on going to college to earn her Bachelor of Science in Human Biology and continue through medical school to become a surgeon. Ariana really loves to stress to students that FBLA is applicable to so much more than just business and that overall the organization helps to prepare you for whatever career you choose to pursue. Ariana has always been very focused on her academics, but she lived in Apache Junction, Arizona for the majority of her life and she felt as though there weren’t enough academic programs to challenge and stimulate students. During the summer that followed her freshman year, she moved to San Tan Valley, Arizona and she switched to San Tan Foothills High School. When Ariana went in to set up her classes for her freshman year she got stuck in a journalism class that she was absolutely dreading, but taking one of her least favorite classes led her to meet the school’s FBLA Advisor and she joined the best organization she’s ever been involved with. Ariana loves doing yoga and relaxing by watching movies because she thinks that it is super important to find a balance between hard work and relaxation. #stateofficersunday
