So....this track season for Efuru Hawa Kilolo(Queen E)...
It’s been rough. Full of stutter starts due to crunchy flexors. Growing pains. Violin scheduling conflicts.
We’re back with our chiropractor and her strength training, and competitive swim season is going well, but track.....track is the part of her heart’s core that has fluttered a bit this year.
She was determined to push through and go for her Junior Olympics goals, along with winning/dominating (for the second year in a row) District and Regional Qualifiers, but the body and schedule didn’t listen this time, and so, after following meet results where area winners in the 9yr old category of the 800M were slower than her winning times at 8yrs old, the Spirit became a bit weary.
We made the call as coach/athlete to shut it down for the rest of this season. *As her coach and as a runner, I had to push past my inner track-crazy to remember that the long term outweighs the short run.* Still, she’s a Warrior and she did what any self-reflecting/determined warrior would do: she helped to devise a training/competitive plan for the 2018-19 season.
Swim will keep her strong and hungry.
Violin will keep her focused and determined.
STEAM will keep her inquisitive and thriving.
Egun, Orisha, and I will help with all of those things while keeping her loved and protected.
The body will heal itself.
The parts make the whole.
