MAKING STORYBOARDS: Part of my process!
I like using thumbnail template sheets in Sketchbook Pro, a technique that I really picked up at DHX working on My Little Pony. I don't always thumbnail sequences like this, but I find that I go back to this when the creative juices turn to molasses. I tend to work this way when I rough for myself, but not for others, because I leave out a lot of stuff in my own thumbs since I know my intentions, but directors and board supervisors are not in my brain and need more complete roughs to understand what I'm planning.
I tackle one sequence at a time, making very very rough thumbs that can take only a few seconds each. Once I get to the end of the sequence, and I'm happy with the flow and acting, I'll go over to Storyboard Pro and do the thing properly, timing it to the voice track and placing in existing backgrounds as necessary.
