Here’s some bench footage from yesterday’s workout, solid 3 x 3 with 220lbs on the bar, felt pretty easy as I had a fat fuck McDonalds meal with like 2k calories before the session 😂😂. Has been a pretty stressful week at school as all my assignments are due so I got 4 hours of sleep which wasn’t optimal but still had a great workout. Week 9 is coming to an end, and hopefully next week for the AMRAP kill this weight and get to repping 225! ⠀⠀⠀

Use these tips to stay healthy and fit during surgery recovery:

1. Plan Ahead - If your surgery is scheduled, do what you can in advance to stay healthy. This includes exercising as much as your injury allows to improve or maintain fitness. The healthier you are going into surgery, the easier it will be for your body to recover. In addition to preparing your body, you can also prepare your home. Depending on the type of surgery you have, you might not be able to reach overhead, walk up stairs, or grab certain objects. Get your home ready for these limitations in order to avoid risk of complications.

2. Eat Well - After surgery, it’s important to give your body all the nutrients it needs to heal and fight off infection. Be sure to include sufficient protein to support the creation of healthy muscle tissue as your body repairs itself. It’s also a good idea to avoid consuming too much salt, as this can contribute to excess swelling after surgery.

.
3. Stay Hydrated - Drinking plenty of water is also essential for fast healing after surgery. If you become dehydrated, your body will have to allocate energy away from healing and toward other functions, potentially prolonging your recovery. Hydrated cells also heal faster, so drink up both before and after surgery.

4. Stay Active - After the first few days of rest, it’s generally a good idea to maintain a certain level of activity after surgery in order to maintain fitness and keep your body healthy. Your doctor or physical therapist will tell you the appropriate exercises along with any limitations you might have during the recovery process.

5. Control Inflammation - Swelling is a natural reaction after surgery, but too much of it can impede the healing process and prolong your recovery. In addition to elevating the affected area, talk to your doctor about using a cold compression system to help control pain and swelling and limit post-operative complications with cold therapy and active compression.

I’ve always been annoyed by guys who neglect their glutes when it comes to lifting. As if we girls don’t care about or need a good butt on our guy. You know the guys that are stacked with chest & biceps & maybe even abs but have absolutely no butt or legs? Yeah, luckily this whole image is disappearing & guys are figuring out that girls want a dang good butt, too. The smart ones always knew, of course. And those naturally blessed (my husband) never had to worry about it.

So, after my last baby and being SO SICK of what pregnancy did over and over to my backside (think brick wall, pancakes...all that), I consciously decided to put my lifting focus on my glutes. Since pregnancy would never claim my butt again, it was totally up to me from this point on to make my butt what I wanted it to be-which was just straight-up smokin’ hot. Let’s be real.

Without neglecting my baby, Bench Press, or my pride & joy, my arms, I devoted a lot of training time and effort to building & shaping my butt.
#
At first, I kind of hated it. It hurt. And I sucked. My legs still suck to this day (working on that). But my butt responded nicely. Challenge accepted! It started hurting less, and I could feel the strength, the engagement. I started to feel all the individual muscles working instead of just my butt as a whole. At that point, I started to really love glute work.
#
I loved that I got exactly what I put into it. However hard I worked for it, I gained something equally good. I loved that I no longer had to accept that I just didn’t have a butt. I loved what it did for my posture. I loved stupid little surprises like being able to flex my butt muscles without moving an inch. I loved how empowered I felt, that I could consciously change & shape my body to be what I wanted it to be.

Now, after 3 years (Note that timeframe. Results take time and are never done), just as I put in the work consistently, the compliments are consistently rolling in. Don’t know if I’ll ever get used to them. I certainly didn’t expect the sheer amount of 🍑 feedback I’ve gotten.

A month ago we had a #pranalifeyogateachertraining assignment where we were to choose a pose or movement and record our progress in some way, shape or form (or, not at all!) with the pose.

Returning from #chaturanga with a #neutralspine sent my brain for a complete rehaul as my body is trained to go right into #cobrapose or #updogpose.
.
I needed to work on core (hence the cough at the beginning to engage my core 😉) and upper body strength. Push ups have been a great tool for me! As have #hollows...(if you don’t know what hollows are - stay tuned!)

I’ve definitely built strength trying to improve my back and core stability for this movement.

These drills were definitely different from anything I've practiced before! Usually while working the core, you avoid engaging the hip flexors so you can target a specific area of your abdominal muscles.
Really felt the engagement in my quads as well. Between these and my HIIT cycle squats, I'll be feeling it for sure.

Ended the week with a little late, but good, training session. I'm happy to have a week off pain free deadlifts but I need to get a little more consistent still. This week's banded pulls were a little heavier than last week working up to 375lbs+bands for a single then 340lbs+bandsx4 and 320lbs+bandsx4x2. Slingshot bench went pretty well too. I had to use @harder2kill 's hook up with @johncena for my lift off but the weights moved well. 410lbsx1, 380lbsx4 and 360lbsx4x2. I ended with stiff leg deads again to build those hams. I'll probably have a quick turn around and have to start next week's training tomorrow instead of Sunday so we will see how that goes

😚HOW TO BUILD A TRAFFIC STOPPING BOOTY😎

😁One search of "how to build a booty" brings up a tonne of exercises & a lot of big booty ladies doing a lot of exercises such as donkey kicks anf kick backs. There is absolutely a time  place for these , but it's important to realise that just doing these on there own, with no other heavier work is 100 percent going limit your "booty gains".
-
😎The way I like to approach it is to use a range of rep ranges. Different parts of your glutes respond to better to different stimulus so to if you include a range you've got all based covered.
-
😍There are a tonne of rep schemes you can utilise such as pyramids, drop sets as well as just straight rep schemes. For the higher rep work you could go up to 30 50 & beyond. I sometimes set a high rep number for something like the frog pump ( like 150+) then it has to be completed in as few a sets as possible.

😁Where possible hit them 3-4 times a week. I often add pumpers to an upper body day to help achieve this❤️Pumper exercises are  low recovery so for most people they're fine to include on other days.

🤗Exercise selection you want to include a higher proportion of hip dominant exercises (deadlifts, hip thrusts)  as opposed to knee dominant (squats & lunges)

😎This applies to all your training, if you aren't feeling the muscle in action, likelihood is it's asleep. That's why using 1-2 activators at the beginning of your workout is super useful. I'm also a huge advocate of doing daily things like regular butt squeezes, seriously try it.

😗Nutrition wise, you have obviously ensure you are eating adequate protein period so aiming for between  0.8-1g per pound of bw and eating in a slight surplus (10-15%) will give your body the tools it needs to give you the booty you want.

😍Building a strong & juicy booty requires time  of course progressive overload you must make sure that over time you’re increasing the  demands on them.

#flashbackfriday These pictures are one year apart - legs are the only part of my body I have struggled with, but I didn’t give up because I maintained the thought that we have the power to change everything; it just all comes down to effort. All great changes are proceeded by chaos, these trying times are what shape us. In the first photo I was going through really hard times with my dad seriously ill and could have died - I trained 5-6 days a week, but I wasn’t eating or sleeping, I was stressed and although I was training I wasn’t consistent with plans. Ever since that time, I have continued to push past limits and things that I didn’t think was possible for me to achieve. The only way I could deal with this heart rendering time was by training hard. I changed my training plan and diet. I focused all my energy in pushing myself beyond my comfort zones and was determined to completely change the composition of my body. I’ve been training for 4 years but have only just started seeing noticeable changes. Progress takes time and for most people they give up before they have stuck to a plan long enough to see results. I have never really been comfortable in my own skin and the way I looked. I developed an unhealthy relationship and mindset with food overtime after having my daughter and have been battling with this for many years now. I have always been surrounded by negativity with people who said that I couldn’t do something and I wouldn’t be able to achieve what I wanted, that I wasn’t good enough. I have always gone through life with the drive to do things to despite people’s comments. Motivation to keep striving for a better version of yourself is not linear. Training for me is therapy, it takes me to another place where I can be my true self, creating a sense of inner peace and happiness. I have found a way of training that I absolutely love, fitness for me saved me in so many ways and I have learned self acceptance and now have confidence in myself. It’s the thrill of the chase, and the quest to become better that is the true meaning of inner growth thus happiness. Learning to love the highs and use the lows to shape us and grow from.
