Another stressful day. So much transition. So much familial heartache. After putting all my energy into cleaning, organizing, and rearranging the house, I splurged (read: ate my feelings) on these delicious vegan nachos. It’s a rare occasion that I consume this kind of fat-heavy, processed meal, but today it was just what I wanted. #satisfaction #comfortfood #eatingmyfeelings #stresseating

Not weight or diet related. I will admit I ate bad today, had a huge salad but added ranch. Then I had pasta overload. End of the semester draws near and I am stressed to the max. But this just made me laugh far more than I should have in class. Hope everyone sees the humor even in rough times 💖.

Not sleeping enough—less than 7 hours of sleep per night—can reduce and undo the benefits you receive through your healthy diet and exercise. Poor sleep over the long term can also play havoc on your mental health.

When my anxiety would flare up, it was often due to lack of sleep, which would mean I was not productive at work causing negativity and irrational thoughts. So I would worry more which kept me awake at night. A few nights of this cycle meant I wanted comfort and calories dense foods typically high sugar and high Carbs for quick energy fixes. Theweight would pile on. I had a busy and demanding job and 12 hour days meant I struggled to get to a gym after work. Doctors remedy - antidepressants.
I remember being curled up in bed and seeing an advert on tv for a workout video and I thought 30 minutes at home that I can do. I knew could make 30 or 45 minutes happen (hello dry shampoo to save time!).I started exercising before I left for work in the morning.

The impact on my sleep was almost instant. Not only did I feel I had an outlet for any stress but my body started to insist on sleep and falling asleep became much easier. After a few weeks of doing this consistently others started to notice the difference and really I have strived to continue that ever since. I recently ordered am proud to say I have been off anti anxiety and antidepressants all because of exercise. I am so grateful I watched the home shopping channel that morning!
Sleep is so important so make sure you get your zzz's!

Full disclosure...I had my 💵 on hand and was going to buy those peanut M&Ms!! I literally had put 2 coins in. BUT, I paused thankfully and realized it was stress talking. So, went for something much more healthy, lots of protein, and nutrients my body actually needs! I know which will actually fuel my body, but those choices aren’t always easy. I’m learning some interesting stuff about overeating lately. This is something I’ve been struggling with and trying to figure out for a very long time, and the answer has not been easy to find. I got a nice key to the puzzle yesterday while reading “Wired to Connect.” Amy Banks writes, “When the dopamine system is disconnected from healthy relationships, the brain looks for other ways to feel good—so it seeks out other ways to stimulate the dopamine system. Those “other ways” are familiar to all of us: overeating, drug and alcohol abuse, compulsive sex, shopping, risk-taking activities, gambling.” Now... this may seem obvious to some folks, but I underestimated the importance of socializing. I had thoughts that sometimes I was craving connection (not pizza), but didn’t know what to do with that. I’d learned and ascribed to our cultural idea that independence is strong and it’s best to stand on my own two feet. I like alone time. I’m fine on my own. I’ve always put a lot of stock into not having to ask for help and trying to make sure I can take care of myself. Turns out, it’s not optional but vital to have community, and asking for/receiving help is healthy. I was replacing connection with food. Brain imaging shows that isolation causes physical pain and is damaging to our bodies AND minds. The tricky part is that we can be around people and still feel disconnected - it’s finding a space where we can safely open up, be seen, feel supported, and see others that is important. #ljlovelyladies #lovelyladiesthebook #stresseating #needtomeditate .
