Last set of my 5x5 at 170. It was followed by 160x8 and 135x14. It was brutal. I’ve been fighting with some intense lupus-related pain lately, and my arms felt like noodles all night. Wrist pain with push ups: Let's talk about it.

If your wrist hurts while in extension, we take the same approach that applies to dealing with any painful body part or movement:

Don't train through pain - Try to train around it while you address the restriction in other non-painful ways.

For push ups, you could try placing an elevated wedge under the base of the palms.

Like wearing a squat shoe or elevating your heels on plates if you lack ankle dorsiflexion during a squat, this serves as a nice way to train around painful wrists during push ups while you work on improving wrist mobility concurrently.

Happy Tuesday Friends😽🌸!! I’ve got some #realtalk for you today ✨! Have you heard the saying, “never look back”? Yeah I have, way to many times and I hear this stream around ALL the time. I actually can’t disagree with this saying more! 〰️
Now let me tell you why!

Looking back and going backwards are TWO totally DIFFERENT things. I want to differentiate the two firstly. I LOVE looking back. I struggled in many different ways in my life, as many of us do. So, I am actually so proud of looking back at my struggles and practicing mindfulness to notice where I am now and how far I have journeyed. Which we all should be proud of our journeys.

Life is not an easy thing, it is actually really damn difficult. There can be shitty life events, shitty people who creep in and even shitty self talk that our egos can create in our minds.
HOWEVER, we hold so much power to be and live at our highest self each and everyday. It takes us stepping in and forward for ourselves to fully show up and be present with the truth of each moment. That truth is going to be continually shifting and moving while we continue to shift and grow. 〰️
My love for you today is to affirm each and everyone of you of your growth, your journey and the hard work you do to show up for yourself, the people around you and allowing others to show up for you too. Allowing space for others to show up for you is just as important as showing up for yourself. WE are not in this alone and are #bettertogether 💕

This is so simple and it challenges me to my core.
I waste hours [no joke, HOURS] of my life planning [and wishing and dreaming] about tomorrow and next week and next month and next year.
At times, this makes me an excellent coach with perfectly periodized programs; at times, this makes me a great wife with organized dates and weekend plans and time set aside for every little thing we want and need to do.
At times, plans are necessary to achieve goals -- especially big goals.
However, at times, this fuels my anxiety and depression by pulling me away from the present.

Don't be stressed about the future; God wants you to trust in Him for your tomorrows and live today while you still have it.
Be present in the NOW, and love the life you were given today.

Today I decided to step out of my comfort zone for my squat workout. Well, kind of.

I still kept weight relatively low (155), but I consciously made the effort to keep rest time much shorter. I typically take AT LEAST 2-3 min between sets, which is sometimes necessary. But sometimes it’s not and sometimes I’m just being lazy 🐌. So I used an actual stop watch 🕙 to time my rests between sets and kept them under 2 minutes and BOY did it make a difference. S**t was tough! But felt really good/strong at the same time. 😅

The other plus side of this was that by the time I was done squatting, I had some much time for activities! 🤓 I got to do a bunch of heavy barbell hip thrusts, hamstring curls, banded bridges, and some banded abduction to burn out the buns! 🍞
.

My fitness story isn't common. I didn't play sports and transition into this lifestyle. I didn't suffer from body dysmorphia, eating disorders, or obesity to get me here.
.
What I was suffering from was myself. I sought out the gym because I had no other outlet for my anger and depression.
.
I hated my life, and I hated myself even more. I was miserable. I woke up angry every single day. I was a party girl/addict/alcoholic who did not give one single fuck about my future or my body. I lived every day like it was my last and truly didn't care if it was. I was severely depressed, felt like no one understood and didn't think I'd ever get better. And it turn, that made me more angry.
.
I was hopeless and needed a change. I started working out with the intention of just relieving stress and having SOME kind of hobby. I had no idea what an impact fitness would make on my life. Fitness improved my mental health tenfold. Over the years I ended up gaining self love, passion, confidence, discipline, patience, appreciation for life, and finally believed in myself.
.
But the number one thing I learned through this: you have to CREATE your life.
🚨You can't surround yourself with garbage people & feel good. You can't cloud your mind with negative BS and expect rainbows and puppies. YOU. MANIFEST. YOUR. REALITY.🚨

I contemplated posting this picture for a few reasons, but I felt that it is important for me to be as open, true & honest with my following. I want to share my journey & inspire others that not every journey is picture perfect. .
.

Yes, you can look at this picture and see that my waist is smaller, I’ve lost about 10lbs, that my body fat is probably lower (I haven’t measured) & that I have more muscle definition, BUT what you don’t see is the internal transformation that took place here. .
.

Back in March I was really struggling. When I started with my nutritionist @briannadiorio she told me we have to heal my body from the inside out, after a few years of not being so nice to it. .
.

I could not believe more the saying “your outsides are a true indicator to what your insides look like.” .
.

For a few years I was under eating, excessively working out, putting physical & emotional stress on myself & doing whatever it took to look a certain way. Your body can only handle so much for so long before it shuts down. .
.

About a year later I can finally say that my insides are healing & my outside is starting to display that. .
.

Did I diet & workout more from March until now? NOPE. .
.

Just allowing my body to find where it feels happiest & healthiest & where it can THRIVE. .
.

This means
✅eating healthy, wholesome foods
✅no restrictions
✅workout 5x per week
✅2 rest days
✅monitoring my stress
✅laughing & smiling
✅LIVING .
.

If you are someone who has been “dieting” for as long as you can remember, I suggest taking a step back & give your body a break. Allow it to find its happy place. You’d be so surprised that sometimes doing LESS can benefit you MORE. .
.
