Living abroad isn’t easy. You’re thousands of miles away from friends, family, and familiarity. The language and culture of Vietnam isn’t something I’m sure I’ll ever fully grasp. It’s completely different from home. There are times I love this place and other times I want to book the next flight back to California. Today, however, I’m reminded why I love this place. Sawyer and I are blessed with well paying jobs and able to save a lot due to the low cost of living.
This morning I woke up and made the FINAL payment on my student loans. In the 20 months that we’ve been here, we’ve been able to pay over $43,000 towards my debt. If we were still back in California, there’s NO way we would’ve been able to pay off this much debt in that short amount of time.
I miss home every single day I’m out here. Although it’s tough at times, I realize how blessed we are to have been born in America, a native English speaking country. Our American passport and education has opened up this opportunity to us for which I’ll forever be grateful for.
Next goal: pay off Sawyer’s student loan debt.
