"This morning I worked alongside an awesome group of @bloomagainbklyn and @newyorkcares volunteers in Brooklyn Heights. BloomAgainBklyn takes unsold inventory (from partners like @traderjoes) and once used flowers (from events/weddings donated by high end shops and floral studios) and repurposes them into arrangements that are then distributed to local nursing home residents, home bound seniors, and families in shelters.
Being in the flower industry, I often find myself feeling guilty at how wasteful a lot of these weddings and events can be. There are lots of flowers that still have life left in them, especially if processed and taken care of properly. Knowing that the volunteers come together to spread the joy of flowers (not only through the distribution of arrangements but also through workshops and community building initiatives) really moved me. When I came across their IG page, I knew that volunteering with them was going to be a part of my visit to Brooklyn.
This little New York getaway of mine has filled me with a lot gratitude. I can’t even tell you how happy I am that organizations like this exist, and how lovely it was to spend the morning with kindhearted people. 💕💐" - Rosalie (@flower_rzy)
