Conference preview: Appalachian State
The Sun Belt conference was taken by Troy last year, who famously beat LSU at Baton Rouge, and Appalachian State. Troy finished the year with 11 wins, and is favored by many to win the conference again. For my money, I am taking Appalachian State. Appalachian State has been the co-champions of the conference the past two years. Their strength will be the secondary, led by possible all-american candidate Clifton Duck. In addition, Appalachian State will get Troy at home to close out the year.
Troy will have the best chance of any other team besides Appalachian State to win the conference. Troy returns four of their five starters on the offensive line. Troy does have a new quarterback, but has expectations of improving on their season from last year.
This year, the Sun Belt will roll out a conference championship for the first time. Both Appalachian State and Troy are in the East division. Arkansas State in the West has a real chance at beating whoever comes out of the west. They return conference offensive player of the year quarterback Justice Hansen. Arkansas State will also host and impressive receiving core through returning players and eligible transfers. Arkansas State has made seven straight bowl games, and will certainly make an eighth along with a possible Sun Belt title.
