'The Kings of Summer' (2013)
Three teenage boys rebel against their possessive parents and decide to build their own house in the middle of the woods for the summer.
This is a coming of age story that does Boyhood better than Boyhood did Boyhood ya feel? It's light hearted yet hits the struggles of balancing being 15 but also wanting independence. It tackles male adolescence and the attempt to grasp what masculinity is meant to mean at that age. This is one of those movies I would've scrolled past and not bothered with if someone didn't tell me about it, so I won't let that happen to you. It's a lovely watch and has a surprisingly stellar comedic cast which adds a special touch. •
