The other day I went to pick up a parcel 📦 my mother sent to me all the way from Spain ✈️. I had no clue as to what it was and I was extremely impatient to find out. I was delighted when I saw she had sent some of my favourite seasonal treats 😍. These small cakes you see in the photo are called ‘panellets’, they are a traditional sweet from the region of Catalonia in Spain. They are typically consumed during a celebration known as “la castanyada” which takes place on All Saints’ Day. They are made of marzipan and come covered in different toppings. My personal favourites are the ones with pine nuts 🤤, but this small box also contains ones with coconut, almonds, fruit and chocolate. These “panellets” in particular are from Tugues, a local patisserie located in Lleida, my hometown 🏠. It is one of my favourite bakeries, they make the best panettone I have ever tried and I find their breakfast sandwiches 🥖 and cheese cones 🧀 to be absolutely delicious.
