Once you've noticed your surroundings and the sensations in your body, the next step of mindfulness is to notice your breathing. Take one complete breath, then deepen and lengthen the breath. Exhale for 5-10 seconds in a slow, controlled manner. Imagine yourself fogging up a mirror with your breath. Take 5 breaths this way. Once you bring yourself into the present, you can respond to your thoughts and feelings with openness and patience.
