What can I say? They nailed it! No doubt they’ve reached Upper Class status with this bad boy.

Two locally sourced black angus beef patties cooked beautifully. Their tangy aristocrat sauce tantalized my taste buds. Nicely chopped lettuce. Melted American cheese. Tasty sliced pickles and diced onions. All on their rockin’ house made sesame seed bun.

Yes, I did list all the delicious components in order of the jingle. I did sing it while I was writing it as well. 😉

If you grew up on the Big Mac and love it like I do, do yourself a favor and experience Bacio’s awesome creation. It will bring back some good memories. It is on the lunch menu only, but you can get it off their secret menu for dinner. 😉

The much anticipated opening of Wahlburgers at the Mall of America came without too much fanfare. Yet! The Wahlberg brothers, Mark, Donnie and Paul will be at the Mall of America the night of May 31st. I’m thinking there may be a few more screaming fans in attendance.

When you are talking 3 oz. patties, you talk Triple! Triple the beef, Triple the government cheese, as they call it. This blend of brisket, short rib & chuck is cooked to order. It hit my desired temperature. The beef was juicy, seasoned well and had good flavor. I subbed caramelized onions in for raw as I am want to do on most of my burgers. Under the patties were chopped lettuce, a few pickles and a thick slice of tomato. All sitting in their housemade signature wahl sauce on top of the bottom bun. The sauce has a good flavor. I did ask for extra sauce and it seemed to be coming from everywhere on the burger. Good call! The bun did its job, was soft and lightly toasted.

I enjoyed The Triple Decker very much and will certainly come back. There is a lot to do at the Mall of America…. Like stopping in for a really good burger at Wahlburgers! I did like this burger.

I got in line just before they opened and was ordering just a few minutes later. I did get the first ever “The Triple Decker” at the Mall of America location. Yes! 🙌

The 2018 Twin Cities Burger Battle is in the books and it certainly was another hit for all of us burger lovers who were able to attend. Battle #5 certainly provided some incredibly delicious and brilliant burger creations. These restaurants just keep raising the burger bar each and every year and they certainly prove to us that the burger is still King in the Twin Cities! The best part of course is the amount of the money raised that goes to The Sanneh Foundation, who is helping inner city kids.

2018 Twin Cities Burger Battle – St. Paul / Harriet Island

It was a cloudy, cool and windy day, but that certainly couldn’t stop the burger lovers from coming out and seeing what these restaurants had in store for them. They certainly delivered! Congratulations to the winners!

The People’s Choice winner was B-52 Burgers and Brew with “The Carlton”. Fresh Hereford beef, Gruyere cheese, arugula, jalapeno bacon jam and herb mayo.
.
The Judge’s pick was The Suburban with their “Chimi My Churri”. Certified angus beef, mango cilantro chimichurri, sweet chile sauce, American cheese bacon and raw onion.
.
I apologize for not having pictures of every burger, but I will glady refer you to @phatphood instastory while it’s still there and a post, and @vraamoney_eats has a post with some good pics and an instastory.

There were so many good burgers, but my vote went to @herbiesonthepark for their Cambozola Burger. Cambozola is a brie style bleu cheese. It also featured braised duck, pepper jam and house made pickles on a pretzel bun.
.
Some of my other favorites besides the winners, were Twin Cites 400 Tavern, Wild Boar, Park Tavern and Paddy Shack.
.
Make a note to clear a Saturday in May next year. This is the Biggest Burger event of the year! I’m hooked!

One of the things I love is getting out of the Twin Cities and discovering what Smalltown USA has to offer. With a population of not much more than 500 people, this is as close to small as it gets.

Main Street Saloon - Hokah, Minnesota / Bacon Double Cheeseburger

I have In-laws in this area of southeastern Minnesota, so I've been here many times, but never had the pleasure of stopping into the dive bar that is the Main Street Saloon.
.
Nothing fancy here, just a really good dive bar burger. The double patties were pretty darn juicy and seasoned well. The cheese was good and melted well. The bacon was cooked to my preference and the bun was soft and toasted. Give me a few sliced pickles and some good fries and I'm a happy burger camper!
.
I enjoyed it very much! If you find yourself in the bluffs of the Mississippi river around the Lacrosse area on the Minnesota side, I would tell you to drive a few miles to Hokah and have a burger and some pizza! I think you'll like it a lot!

If you don’t have cash, you don’t have this burger. OK. Don’t panic. They do have a cash machine onsite. Be prepared to eat everything with your hands. They do not have utensils. I’m not kidding on this one. No problem for me. I love eating with my hands and fingers.

Sandy’s Tavern – Richfield / Bacon Double Cheeseburger

I do love dive bars, especially when they have good, greasy burgers. Sandy’s fits that bill. Fresh ¼ pound patties, juicy, greasy and seasoned well. A slice of American cheese on each patty. I asked for grilled onions, they added a few. A couple of nicely cooked bacon strips. A few thinly sliced pickles hit the spot too. They’ve got some chipotle mayo that goes on their Sandy’s Sizzler burger. It’s delicious. Get some and put it on your burger. The bun was soft, nicely toasted and good.

This is a really good dive bar burger! I totally enjoyed it.

The Mall of America now has a second attached hotel on its North end. That hotel is the JW Marriott. It’s an upscale restaurant with some really good food. The burger is a little unique and hits some good notes.

Cedar + Stone Urban Table - Bloomington (Mall of America) - Cedar + Stone Burger

What you will notice right away is the thick, round slice of cheese. You’ll be like “what the heck is this”? It’s cheese torchon. This is made with three cheeses. Cream cheese, cheddar cheese and Gouda cheese. It’s melted together, put in a cloth and formed into a cylindrical shape. It’s unique and I did like the flavor. You will notice the cream cheese consistency.

The beef was cooked pretty close to medium, was juicy and had flavor. The braised greens were pretty good. A sweet and savory bacon jam tops the beef patty. The bun is soft, lightly toasted and was good. The bottom bun did get a little soggy after a little while, but not a serious problem.

Overall, it’s a pretty darn good burger. Take a break from shopping and stop in for this burger!

So, you're planning to hit up a BBQ joint for some killer brisket, pulled pork or ribs. Damn right! That's why you go there. Let me just say, after my stop at Baldy's BBQ, you may want to check out the burger menu.

On the menu is their signature Wheelhouse Burger and the Baldy's Burger. You have some build options with the Baldy's Burger. I went with House made cheese sauce, sauteed onions, bacon, pickles and seasoned mayo. I wanted it a little more epic, so I got them to add a couple of layers of their smoked brisket on top of the patty. Let me just say, Score!

The beef, a 1/3 pound patty had a decent char to it, was seasoned well and was pretty juicy. The sauteed red onions were perfectly cooked and delicious. The bacon was absolutely fantastic and was cooked exactly to my desire. It was not even close to being overly crispy.

I have to tell you about this cheese. I love that a few places are offering house made cheese sauce. This was poured over the beef patty and was delicious. The sauteed onions sat in this liquid and totally soaked it up. There was some extra cheese sauce pooling on my plate. Loved it!

Finally, and it wasn't a topping choice, the layers of brisket. The brisket was so good. Juicy, a little fatty and very flavorful. I made the right choice! My last choice was their seasoned mayo. They swiped a bunch of it on the top and bottom buns. It was really good. Lastly, the bun was soft, buttery and toasted perfectly.

I ate half the burger with the layers of brisket on top, but then took them off and chowed down on them separately. This is one very good burger! It's also one messy burger as well. No problem!

St. Paul just welcomed another heavyweight burger to their city. I’m so glad they did! Parlour has joined the ever growing, really good burger options St. Paul offers to us burger lovers. This was my first visit to the St. Paul location. I can’t tell you about most of the restaurant since I only made it to a chair in front of the grill. I can tell you it was great to watch the magic happen right in front of me.

For anyone who has had this burger in Minneapolis, I’m guessing it’s in their Top 5. I’m thinking after they try it in St. Paul, they’ll feel the same way. 😊

An incredibly flavorful beef blend of ribeye, chuck and brisket. This blend separates itself from other burgers. The patties are placed on the flattop and smashed! The patties get a super char from the flattop. Here’s the other thing you need to know. They sprinkle a generous amount of salt on the beef. I know you may be tired of me talking about seasoning, but if only one restaurant reads a review of mine and seasons their beef better, it will all be worth it.

White American cheese tops these two beautiful patties. You get a few really good, thinly sliced house made pickles to put on at your discretion. All this goes in a soft, nicely toasted egg bun from @franklinstreetbakery . A while ago, they added the option to add bacon and an egg. I opted for the bacon. It was super thick, super wide and just purely delicious! I highly recommend the bacon.

KFAN radio fans know The Common Man, Dan Cole, frequently talks about his rounds of golf at Prestwick, so you may even see him lingering around the Pub from time to time. Let's talk about this burger. Flavorful it is. It is seasoned very well. It has that charred grill feel to it. It was cooked the way I like it. A nice amount of white Irish cheddar covers the patty. A couple of long sliced pickles sit in their "Prestwick sauce" which goes on the bottom bun. The sauce has a nice flavor to it. I could have used even more Prestwick sauce. There is also crisp bacon on top of the patty. It was way too crisp for me. The egg bun was toasted nicely and was really good.

This is a good burger. I will definitely be back to try another burger as well as a lot more of their regular menu items.

Stillwater, located on the St. Croix river, is such a great place for food, drink, fun & scenery. Portside has all of that covered! They just rolled out a new menu, and Shawn Smalley, former co-owner of Smalley’s Caribbean Barbeque, as their new Chef. The new menu looks great!

I decided to go with their signature Portside Burger. I think you’ll love this burger as long as you love bacon. If you don’t love bacon, we don’t have much to talk about. 😉

This could be called Portside’s Bacon Burger. It’s all about the bacon. The beef patty is a 60/40 blend of ground chuck and bacon. It had a great bacon flavor to it, was cooked to my preference and was juicy. I’m pretty good with it at this point, but they are not done. A nice handful of chopped cherry wood smoked bacon goes on top of the patty adding even more delicious bacon flavor to the mix. There are greens on the bottom bun and it’s finished off with bacon jam. How many times did I mention bacon? A lot! The buns was toasted and was good.

There is no cheese on this burger and it really doesn’t need any, but I’m always up for cheese on my burger, but I do understand not having it. I really liked this burger and want you to try it. Make a day of it in Stillwater and plan a stop at Portside. I think you’ll love it!

I must admit, I actually like going to the grocery store. There's just something about buying food that is enjoyable. 😉 What I'm not getting at my grocery store is a good burger, but I know where to get one!

I had heard about a good burger at Jerry's Foods a few months ago, but didn't really pursue it since, it's a grocery store, c'mon. I recently saw a couple of people mention it, so since it is in my lunch hour wheelhouse, I had to check it out.

It's a good looking diner-style burger. Two thin patties with a great flattop char to them and they were not overcooked. American cheese was melted beautifully on each patty. The bacon was cooked just right. I asked for grilled onions and as you can see, they gave me a whole lot of them and they cooked them just right as well. Works for me! They give you some lettuce, a tomato and a couple of long, sliced dill pickles. I put the pickles on, but the rest I left on my plate. The Franklin Street Bakery bun, soft, buttery and toasted beautifully, was great! All good, right?

Close, but I was really bothered by the failure to season the beef. It was good, but would have been so much better with some seasoning. It did lack flavor. Overall, it's a good burger, but a lack of seasoning rears its ugly head again.

It's a good lunch option. Go to Jerry's for some groceries, but make a beeline to The Kitchen for a burger!

Since building my relationship with Celts Craft House, I’ve come to realize it can be a really good thing. It’s so much fun to see the creativity Chef Al possesses and the pride and excitement he shows talking about and having us dominate these burgers. He starts with an idea and then brings it to life and then to my plate.

This burger is unique, impressive and tastes fantastic! There is a lot to talk about. The beef, as always is a blend of chuck and short rib. It was juicy, cooked perfectly and was seasoned the way a burger should be. Ladies and gentlemen, can I introduce you to putting salt/seasoning on your beef? It’s not a new concept, but it seems like more and more restaurants have forgotten how to do it.

The cast of characters starts with cherries flambeed in bourbon. I’ve never seen these on a burger. Tart cherries, getting drunk in bourbon and then lit on fire. The cheese you see is Brie. Have you ever seen this much creamy, buttery Brie cheese on a burger? I have not. Incredible!

The lead character just might be the House-made bacon jam. It’s the first thing that introduced itself to me. This sweet, salty, savory, bacony spread is fantastic. The first thing I want to tell you is that this beef, as well as the burger as a whole, does have a different taste and different flavors going on. I did like it.

The beef, Peterson Limousin beef, has pho broth, bone marrow and garlic scapes (they look like scallions), mixed in. I was a little worried about it being dry, so I asked them if I could get it cooked pink. No problem. They nailed it!

They top the patty with very thin, fried Pho noodles and bean sprouts to make it more “pho-centric”. Their unique “basil-lime-jalapeño aioli” is slathered on the top and bottom buns. It has a really good flavor and I would have liked even more slathering. They get their soft, nicely toasted, brioche bun delivered daily from Trung Nam French Bakery, a block away.

I was chatting with a coworker and they mentioned that Ciao Bella had a very good burger. This is one of those “no one has said that before” times, about this place that I know of. The funny thing is there was one Italian restaurant a little while back where the same thing happened and their burger was very good. That place was Zelo. What I didn’t know is that Zelo is Ciao Bella’s sister restaurant and they both serve the same burger, just put together slightly different.

The beef is juicy and was cooked perfectly. I would have liked it seasoned a little bit more, but it had good flavor. Thick Fontina cheese wraps itself around the patty. I like the choice of Fontina. Caramelized onions, smaller sliced pickles, some greens and a couple of thick tomatoes all work together. They have a unique special sauce that they swipe on the top bun. I would have liked even more though. The bun, soft, buttery and perfectly toasted, is great.

It is a messy burger. You’ll get a good workout keeping it all together, but that’s half the fun. You now have two places to get this really good burger.

Burger hour with @burgeraweek! I love John’s website and his IG feed. It was a ton of fun to meet him and talk all things burgers for a few hours. He’s definitely got burger cred.

We stopped at Peppers & Fries, a @tcburgerbattle participant this year and a previous winner. I love their Bangkok burger and knew I’d be getting a great burger no matter what I picked. I’ve heard so many great things about the Pepper’s PB&J, there was no other choice.

Their beef, a 1/3 pound fresh angus patty was juicy and cooked to my pink preference. The cheddar cheese was melted beautifully and was a great choice. Two long strips of perfectly cooked bacon criss crossed the top. Normally you see the cheese melted on the beef patty, but they melted it on top of the bacon. 🤔

Now for the PB&J part of the story. Peanut butter is swiped on the top bun. I’m always a little worried all I will taste is peanut butter, but there was enough to taste peanut butter, but it did not dominate the burger at all. In fact, I would have liked a little more. I was really looking forward to tasting their house made pepper jelly, but there really wasn’t very much on top of the bottom bun, so I couldn’t tell you how sweet it was or if it had any kind of a kick to it. 😕 The bun is soft, buttered and toasted perfectly. Great bun!

This is a very good burger and if they promise to give me a little more peanut butter and a lot more pepper jelly, I’ll come back and have it again. 😉 They have a great lineup of burgers!

Pay close attention, there is only a small logo on the front door. It took me three drive-by’s to see the place, but I’m sure glad I found it. They serve one great cheeseburger!

It was nearly impossible to find any flaws in this burger. The Wagyu/chuck blend was juicy and flavorful and cooked perfectly. White American cheese does it for me. Griddled onions, think caramelized, had a good taste to them. The very thinly sliced dill pickles were great.

I didn’t notice it right away, but there was a ton of “Tiger Sauce Mayo” generously spread on the bottom bun. A lot of places can be a little skimpy on their special sauces. Not here. Loved it! The sauce has a great taste. You can see it starting to ooze out from under the patty. The bun, from Patisserie 46, was soft, buttery, perfectly toasted and just great!

The bacon and onion jam stole the show for me more than the sploogefest fondue and bacon itself. It was nice and caramelized with a smokey taste similar to the bacon. Cathedral Hill is one of my favorite restaurant areas in St. Paul. How about an iconic place that opened its doors in 1975 with ties back to the turn of the century? It’s a beautiful vintage building inside and out. Today it might be well known for its romantic dining, comfortable lounge and incredible outdoor patio. What it might not be known for is its burger. The beef is very good. It has that charbroiled feel to it. It was juicy and perfectly cooked. The popular Gruyere cheese covers the patty. Cremini mushrooms give it a little earthy taste. Caramelized onions go well with the mushrooms. They have a very good roasted garlic-lemon aioli that kicks this up a little bit. A little arugula is placed in the delicious aioli on the bottom bun. The bun is a soft sesame seed, toasted and good.

What makes a 5 Star restaurant? Great food, great service, great atmosphere, cleanliness? Sure, all of them. Personally, as of today, I come to Bellacour to get down and “Dirty”!

Dirty? Yep! It’s a Dirty, delicious mess! Usually, I’ll start with the beef, but what will stand out is the black truffle sauce. You can’t escape it and it is delicious. There is so much of it, you can use it like a dipping sauce for your burger. There is also another sauce on the burger, their garlic mayonnaise.

The beef, double patty and dry aged was good, but the flavor is hidden a little bit with all of that black truffle sauce splashing around. The juiciness factor was in the ok range. The Gruyere cheese is a great French choice. There’s another French cheese called Epoisses.
.
Those cheeses together give it some really good flavor. I liked the diced red onions in the mix. The bibb lettuce protects the bottom bun nicely, keeping it from getting soggy. The brioche bun is what I would say a little heavier and doesn’t let the black truffle sauce destroy it. Oh, yes, they give you a few tasty cornichons on the side to pop in your mouth as well, at least that's my jam.

It's a good burger. I would recommend you make it one of your Wayzata burger stops. I think you'll enjoy the experience.

They give you quite a few choices of meat, bread, cheese, toppings, sauces and extras. Mine started with the 1/2 pound fresh angus beef patty, cooked perfectly and juicy. I’m an onion guy, so caramelized onions I chose. I’m also a bacon guy, so bacon was my choice.

In looking through the cheese options, I was about to choose American, but then something caught my eye down in the “sauce” section. Cheesy Jalapeño! Normally, this is used as a dipping sauce, but I pictured cheese sauce poured over the top of my burger, and as you can see in the picture, they nailed it and it was delicious! I chose sliced pickles to top it off. The toasted bun completed my creation.

If you look closer at the picture, you might have noticed what looks like a second beef patty, and you would be correct. I’m not sure why, but a second 1/2 pound patty was added to my burger. Yes, the math says that’s a full pound! I just said, “sweet”!

The beef is a 1/2 pound Pat LaFrieda blend of short rib & chuck. It was cooked to my preference and was pretty juicy. White American cheese is a great, melty choice. Next are the biggest, thickest slices of sautéed yellow onions I’ve ever had on a burger. They were so fleshy and perfectly cooked. I loved them.

Their house made “comback sauce” gets spread on the bottom bun and their house made pickles get spread around on top of the sauce. The pickles were good and the sauce was very good. I recommend getting a side of the comback sauce for the burger or for the fries. The bun is a solid, toasted @franklinstreetbakery bun.

When you hear dry-aged beef, you probably think expensive steakhouse serving expensive steaks? Nope! How about a little south Minneapolis neighborhood restaurant, and it’s not a dry-aged steak, but a dry-aged burger! Who does that!

Dry aged = richer beef flavor & more tender, buttery texture. Usually, dry-aged for 30 days. Xavi bumps that up to 72 days for even more flavor and tenderness.

The beef flavor was incredible and it was tender, juicy and cooked perfectly. Their house made “beer cheese soup cheese” was as good as it sounds and gave this burger a one/two punch most don’t have.
I loved the grilled onions, picking up a lot of flavor from their well seasoned flattop grill. The house made dill pickles were just great. The bun, nicely toasted, completes this delicious creation.

Here’s what you need to know. The Beer Cheese Burger will be part of their new Sunday Brunch Menu starting on March 18th. The 72 day dry-aged beef was a one time thing and won’t be part of the brunch burger, but I’m sure it will be delicious as well and I certainly want to stop in for Brunch down the road and try it.

This place may fit into your definition of a dive-bar in the most loving way. The Bloomington locals know they’ve got something special. For me, it’s a great lunch spot.

They have different weekly burgers from the Bourbon burger to the Ballpark burger, but a great place to start is with their signature Shanty burger.

The beef is a third pound fresh angus and has that great flattop sear to it. It was cooked to my medium preference and was pretty juicy. They throw on two different cheeses, cheddar and Swiss, melted nicely. Next, they top that with some guacamole. Normally, I’m not going to throw guacamole on my burger, but it worked fine.

Two strips of perfectly cooked applewood-smoked bacon are what I was looking for. I also opted to add some fried onions and was glad I did. They were fried perfectly and were delicious and plentiful. The bun was buttered, toasted and works very well.

Bloomington’s dive-bar gem is worth your time. It’s a really good burger!

Seriously though, all 70’s music kidding aside, this is a great burger! It’s got curb appeal, and it’s thoroughly an enjoyable burger experience. The Half Pound Black Angus beef patty is as thick as a filet mignon and certainly reminded me of one. It was cooked to perfection, was soft, tender and oh so juicy! I love juicy! 😉

Caramelized onions cover the beef patty and gooey provolone cheese wraps itself around the onions and the beef. Below the patty are two slices of juicy tomatoes, tasty pickles and some greens.

The beef is the Superstar of this show, but their “special sauce” comes in second. It’s fantastic and it’s drizzled on top of the patty and swiped on the bottom bun. Did I just mention the bun? This house made sweet bun was toasted perfectly and was outstanding.

I like to call a burger like this, a juice bomb. After a couple bites, juices started dripping on my plate, the patty started sliding over the tomatoes, the beef started coming apart, the cheese and onions were sliding off a bit. As I’ve stated before, I normally don’t review “burgers of the month” since it only gives people a month to get out and try them. That is changing today. I’m going to review any burger I want to! 😯🤣

Being a Rosemount resident, I’ve taken it upon myself to be a voice for some businesses that I believe in and love, south of the river. @celtscrafthouse is one of them!

Celts Craft House - Apple Valley / Reuben Burger

I think Chef Al is a creative genius and all of his scratch made food is fantastic! This burger being on that list. It oozes everything Irish. The beef, as usual, is a Pat LaFrieda blend of ground chuck and short rib. It was cooked perfectly, was flavorful and juicy.
.
Al’s corned beef is tender and delicious and is piled on top of the beef patty. His flavorful cabbage is piled on top of that. The cheese, Wow! That cheese covering and dripping over everything is Al’s House-made Swiss Mornay sauce.
.
The last of his House-made creations is his, can’t get enough, thousand island dressing. He generously dumps that on the top bun. The pub bun is soft and perfectly toasted.
.
You could take the beef patty out and you’d have a great Reuben sandwich, but then you wouldn’t have a Reuben Burger, would you? 😉
.
This is a fantastic burger! Do what the Irish would do and check this Burger out this month. Check out my Celts instastory highlighting a few of their delicious menu items. The word is getting out!

You can start with one patty or two. I’ll take two. 😉 The patties are seared beautifully and avoid the thin patty dryness. Beautifully melted American cheese covers both patties. On top of the bottom bun, there is a good tasting bacon mayo and some ketchup. They work together to create a distinct taste. Shredded lettuce is placed on top of the bacon mayo/ketchup.

A few really good pickles sit on top of the lettuce. A Franklin Street Bakery bun is toasted and has a nice crunch in all the right spots. Right now, this cheeseburger is available for Sunday brunch only.

It should be a successful entry into the Brunch Burger club! Make if one of your brunch spots.

A LaCrosse landmark with a newly designed kitchen and a new menu is kicking out some really good burgers.

Howie’s - LaCrosse, WI / The Howie Burger

Located by the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse and frequently voted one of the best sports bars in the state. They’ve raised the bar on so called “bar food”.
.
I'm thinking your first burger at Howie's should be The Howie Burger. Two fresh beef patties, cooked pretty close to medium. A slice of cheddar covers the bottom patty and a slice of swiss covers the top patty. Both were melted very well.
.
Two slices of perfectly cooked applewood bacon top the patty. A couple of juicy tomatoes and a few leaves of lettuce are placed below both patties.
.
As is becoming more popular these days, much to my liking, is they have their own kick-ass special sauce. They call theirs "Howie's Dynamite sauce and it is "Dynamite"! It has a definite presence on the burger. You will want to get some on the side as well for your fries. The bun has a little different feel to it and it not toasted at all, but it was soft and good. It was a little messy towards the end, but bring it on! 😉

Howie's is officially "out of state", but as we know, being right across the border, it's just a two hour drive from the Twin Cities. Next time you are down in that area, make this your burger stop. 🍔

This burger will certainly make you Happy. It’s delicious! 😀

Two certified angus beef patties, nicely cooked and juicy. Havarti cheese adds a buttery, sweet taste. There are a couple of things that will grab you right away. The bacon jam. It is sweet, chunky and fantastic! A generous amount is spread on the bottom bun. The second attention grabber is their charred scallion aioli. It has incredible flavor. It made my taste buds do a little dance. It covers the top bun. There are also some thin sliced, shredded greens soaking up that sauce. I also really liked the pickles, and the little, thin slices of pickled Fresno peppers. Their toasted house potato bun is a solid choice. It is a smaller burger, so you may want to order a couple of sides.

This burger just has a really good, sweet taste to it. It works on every level. Many places have realized if they kick up their happy hour burger a notch or two, it will pay off. I’m guessing it will pay off for Bardo! Make this your next happy hour stop. You won’t be disappointed.

You can get The Modernist Burger during happy hour from 4:00-6:00pm and late night from 10:00pm-12:00am.

There certainly has been a buzz around the opening of Capriotti’s in Edina, led by our own @phatphood and anyone else who has been fortunate enough to have stopped in for a delicious sandwich.

I was able to get there opening day and have done a couple of instastories myself, but after further review, I really wanted to tell you a little more of my experience so far.
.
Capriotti’s - Edina / Cheese Steak
.
Their signature sandwich is The Bobbie, and it’s very good. This turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce sandwich is a cold sandwich, but you can ask to get it hot if you like. That’s the beauty of Capriotti’s, they will make any of their sandwiches just the way you want them.
.
I’m a big Cheese Steak guy, so besides The Bobbie, I ordered the Cheese Steak. It was fantastic! Delicious steak, grilled onions, white cheddar cheese and a fantastic bun and I was sold!
.
I started chatting with Brandon, one of the owners thru email and asked him if I could possibly get double steak, onions and cheese on a Cheese Steak. He said of course, that’s what we do here.
.
So, I took him up on it. I went in about a week ago and was ordering the “Big Cheese” Steak, as I like to call it, when Brandon saw me and he said “l’ll make this one myself”. This is what came off the grill! It reminds me more of a Cheese Steak-Zilla than double everything. This thing is basically a Quad Cheese Steak. Four servings of steak, onions, peppers and cheese.
.
It was Epic and fantastic! Delicious steak, perfectly cooked onions and peppers, the cheese is melted beautifully and has a great taste. The bun is perfect! Soft, but firm. It’s a great bun. This had the hot peppers on it and it does kick up the heat. If you aren’t a hot pepper person, you can get sweet peppers on it instead.
.
So, go in and order this delicious Cheese Steak and tell them to make it “Big Cheese” style. They won’t know what the heck you are talking about, so then just tell them to double up everything. If you do, make sure you tag me! 😎
.
I will be back many more times! 😋

Does anyone really look forward to Mondays? Weekend is over! Back to the grind. Well, I have a suggestion to brighten up your Monday. Burger Monday at Sonora Grill!

Sonora Grill - Minneapolis / Double Cheeseburger

I know, you might be thinking tacos, chips & salsa, etc.. and you would be right. My job is to get you thinking Burger! Delicious burger! 🍔
.
This Double Cheeseburger totally outperformed my expectations. The beef. Two thin patties cooked right. Too many times, thin patties are over cooked. Not today. These were juicy with a nice char. American cheese on the top patty and cheddar cheese on the bottom patty. Melted beautifully and there is plenty of it. Grilled onions on top of both patties certainly worked for me.
.
A mixture of greens including arugula sits atop the cheese. Two sliced of juicy tomatoes top the greens. The secret weapon is their “Arbol aioli”. It is fantastic! It has just a little spicy heat to it, but just the perfect amount. Don’t worry about too much heat. They slather this on the top and bottom buns. They get it! That’s what we want. You will also want to make sure you get a side of this deliciousness for your fries. Then there’s the bun. It’s really good. Soft, buttery and lightly toasted.

You will enjoy this burger experience. Get the tacos next visit. 😉

The cheese was melted perfectly and the bun was served upside down, which was an interesting little touch. The patties were slightly over-charred but seasoned well and the pickles with raw onions added a nice acidity and flavor

Normally, I don’t review limited time burgers because I want you to be able to get the burger for a while after I tell you about it, but this is a Minnesota Juicy Lucy that recently received national attention.

The Lexington - St. Paul - DeLEX Juicy Lucy

You will need to hit The Lex very soon as this burger will only be available until March 1st and in the bar area only. I hope somehow they will keep it around because it is absolutely fantastic! I’ll give you the short story, but make sure you check out @ricknelsonstrib Star Tribune Burger Friday story about this burger. Chef Jack’s Juicy Lucy was featured on the Beat Bobby Flay show on the Food Network.

Now to the burger. I’ve been able to talk about burgers recently that have that soft, warm, melt in your mouth feeling. This totally has it! I will start with the cheese this time. It’s Gouda and it has bits of black truffles and black & white truffle oil in it. The flavor is incredible. The consistency is perfect. Normally with Juicy Lucy’s, the beef gets over cooked to get the cheese very hot. Not the case here. The beef was delicious, flavorful, seasoned very well and actually was a little pink. Definitely, not dry. Caramelized onions were delicious and cooked perfectly. They were not mushy as some can get. They were more like grilled onions to me.
.
They slather truffle aioli on the bottom bun and add arugula on top of that. It works so well. Finally, this beautiful, soft, lightly toasted, I could even say fluffy bun was fantastic! This Juicy Lucy is small, so make sure you don’t have to share. What’s not small is how much you will enjoy this burger. If you can possibly make it out to The Lex before it’s gone, do it. I really want you to experience this incredible creation. 🍔

Book Club – Minneapolis / Shallot Tarragon Butter Burger

I’ve run across a couple of places that are serving straight up Burgers, not Cheeseburgers. The Book Club is doing just that and doing it very well.
.
The beef is juicy and delicious and they cooked it exactly how I wanted it. Score! Now, for you cheese lovers, and that includes me, don’t worry, there are plenty of flavors to enjoy! There is flavorful herb butter on top of the beef patty. Then there is a very delicious Tarragon mustard aioli, plentifully spread across the top bun.
.
On the bottom bun is lettuce shredded very nicely and a couple of very red sliced tomatoes. They also give you a bunch of very, very thinly sliced pickles on the side. They were really good. The bun was soft, lightly toasted and very good as well. The only issue I had was with the tomatoes being below the beef patty and being very juicy, the bottom bun got a little soggy. Nothing too serious though.

My coworkers loved the Pork Belly Sandwich!

The food scene in Wayzata has exploded recently. There is something for everyone in this small Twin Cities suburb on beautiful Lake Minnetonka. As you are coming into downtown Wayzata, one of the first places you will see is the Hotel Landing. I know, you’re not looking for a place to stay, you are looking for a burger. Well, there is a restaurant inside this Hotel called ninetwentyfive, and it has the burger you are looking for. 🍔

Ninetwentyfive - Wayzata / The Landing Burger
.
Their signature burger is certainly not your standard cheeseburger. They put their own spin on it and it works very well. The beef, cooked nicely to medium, was juicy and flavorful. The cheese, you don’t see very often, is called Raclette. It’s a Swiss cheese similar to fondue as we know it. I like it. They are very generous with it as well. They put a really good, bernaise aioli on the top and bottom buns that adds to the overall flavor profile.
.
Pickled onions lay beneath the patty and a couple of sliced tomatoes as well. A single leaf of lettuce holds the pickled onions and tomatoes and helps keep all of the juices from soaking the bottom bun. A very good idea. The bun was shiny, soft, lightly toasted and good.
.
What they’ve created is a really good burger. If Wayzata is your destination, make ninetwentyfive one of your stops!

It’s fitting that it’s almost Valentine’s Day because I’ve just found my new love! 🍔❤️

This burgers got it! It’s special. Two 1/4 pound beef patties, cooked perfectly, great flavor and char. And Yes, very juicy! I’m off to a perfect start.

Incredible amounts of melted American cheese blanket each patty. On top of that, their very good, thinly sliced house pickles. Pickles certainly can enhance the burger, and I loved how these were thin and wide, like they sliced them lengthwise. Now the kicker. They generously swipe their delicious roasted garlic aioli across the top bun. Then they take a very thinly sliced red onion, along with the pickles, and let them marry with the garlic aioli.
.
That would be enough to make me stand up and shout, but then they added two strips of the most perfectly cooked and delicious bacon I’ve had in a long time. As I’ve said before, I don’t want my bacon to make my burger “crunchy”! This was a big bonus for me.
.
I was recently at a place, which I chose not to post, that had a bun that would have totally buzz-killed this burger. Not this one. It was soft, lightly toasted, absolutely beautiful and delicious!
.
Hopefully, you’ve gotten the message that I really “loved” this burger! I cannot wait to get back and try a few more things off their menu that sound fantastic!

Have you ever had a secret that you really wanted to tell someone? Well, I have one, and I am going to tell you right now.

Celts Craft House has been the best kept secret in Apple Valley for quite some time, but I think that’s about to change!
.
The first official Twin Cities Burger Night was hosted by @celtscrafthouse. It was also the night they launched their new Steakhouse Burger. I was joined by @phatphood as always and @shawnrodgers joined us as well.
.
Celts Craft House - Apple Valley / Steakhouse Burger
.
Let me just say that their Craft House Burger has been a favorite of mine for a while. I was very excited to try their new Steakhouse Burger. Like all of their other burgers, this one is a 1/2 pound, Pat LaFrieda blend of short rib and ground chuck. It was cooked medium, it was juicy and had that flat top char to it.
.
What you will notice right away is this beautifully melted, white cheese blanketing the patty. No, it’s not white American. No, it’s not pepper jack. It’s something I had never heard of, Boar’s Head White Cheddar Horseradish cheese. I like a good horseradish flavor, but sometimes it can have too much of a bite to it. This is not the case. Chef Al tells me when the cheese is warm and melted, it mellows the bite in it. It’s unique and good.
.
Under all of that melted cheese are flavorful cremini mushrooms, sautéed onions and A.1. Steak Sauce. Two strips of Applewood smoked bacon are draped across the top and a thick onion ring sits alone above it all. There is also house made horseradish sauce slathered on the top bun which is flavorful, but not overpowering at all. Their new Pub bun is soft, lightly toasted and a really good choice. It comes with pickles on the side as well.
.
When I think of a Steakhouse, I’m going to think about this burger. It’s a very good burger! 🍔
.

There are 100 different burgers on the menu. I took a deep breath and made my decision pretty quickly.

The fresh, never frozen beef comes in 1/4 pound patties. You can add a second 1/4 pound patty or you have the option to have them make a single 1/2 pound patty. I love options. I added a second 1/4 pound patty. The patties were cooked medium, were juicy and had a good char on them.
.
Plenty of American cheese topped both patties. A couple strips of perfectly cooked bacon and I added grilled onions, which there were a lot of and they were on top of both patties. Simple pickles on the side. The fresh bun is soft and works great.
.
I appreciate the simplicity and deliciousness of this burger. I was totally satisfied! 😀
.
King's Place is about 40 minutes from the Mall of America just before Treasure Island Casino and Red Wing. It is worth the trip!

We have a few establishments on board to host these Burger Nights and we hope to generate a lot more interest as we go forward. We will let you know where and when these Burger Nights will happen about a week before the event.

We may even have a special guest or two at some of these events. We are very excited to give this a shot. After all, this is a Burger Town first and foremost!

Our first official Twin Cities Burger Night will be at Celts Craft House @celtscrafthouse in Apple Valley. They will be launching their new “Steakhouse Burger”. The launch will be between 6:00pm and 8:00pm on Thursday, February 8th. You’ll be able to get $5 off the Steakhouse Burger and get half price on taps and select cocktails.

It can’t be wrong when it feels so right! This impressive burger got so much right, I forgot about the wrong. 😉 This was one of those fun burger experiences.

I first saw this on @burgeraweek feed seven months ago. I thought it looked like a must stop and I definitely think you should stop in for this one!

Merlin’s Rest Pub - Minneapolis / Excaliburger

Two 1/3 poundish grass fed beef patties put this into the “that’s a lot of beef” category. The answer to the most important question is Yes! It was very juicy! Swipe left to see the video. 😊

American cheese normally tops the patties, but they have this “Red Headed Piper cheese sauce” that I wanted to try. Red Headed Piper is an Irish Red Ale brewed by Northgate Brewing in Minneapolis. It was very good and melted well. I liked that choice. .
Next you’ve got caramelized onions, which were very good. In between the patties, there is a slice of British bacon. Think Canadian Bacon. It was good.

There is some seasoned aioli spread on the bun. There is also a tomato slice on top of the onions. Finally, there is this super unique tasting bacon jam. I can’t really describe it except that it is very distinctive and very good!

The bun was a good, soft, lightly toasted bun. A solid choice.
.
So here is where the wrong comes in. I asked if that Red Headed Piper cheese sauce could be put on top of both patties. It was only on the top patty. I was told I could choose either the British bacon or American bacon. I asked for American, but was given British. It is supposed to come with lettuce, but there was no lettuce. Because of all of the juiciness, the bottom bun got very wet, but I can live with that.

This burger was a total mess halfway into it, but that is something I usually have no problem with. That was the case this time. I had a lot of fun with this burger! There was too much burger right to remember the burger wrong.

If you’ve been to Doolittles, you know it’s all about the Woodfire cooking. In fact, when you walk in, you have to go right by a big woodfire grill rotisserie cooking whole chickens. The smell is fantastic and so is the rotisserie chicken. I’ve always had the chicken, but this time, you guessed it, I came for the burger. 😉

Doolitte’s - Eagan / Burger with Smoked Bacon Jam

This burger has a lot going for it. Fresh ground chuck was cooked medium and was juicy. I love the flavor of Gouda cheese. The bacon jam was delicious. It was sweet and savory with some big chunks of bacon in it.
.
Mayo is generously slathered on the bottom of the bun and shredded lettuce on top of that. The potato bun was soft and lightly toasted. Go for the juicy chicken and the killer, award winning, woodfire buffalo wings, but get this burger too!

If you seen my instastories, you know I’m a cat guy at heart, but after a Burger focused happy hour with @phatphood, I might be leaning towards the dog side, the Stray Dog side at least. 😉

Stray Dog - Minneapolis / The New Yorker

Stray Dog is owned by the former executive chef of The Bulldog Northeast. It isn’t the Bulldog anymore, but now is Stray Dog. There is at least one similarity between the two. Stray Dog is a burger place. There are a lot of burgers on the menu, and a lot of very interesting burgers to say the least.

The New Yorker uses New York butcher, Pat LaFrieda’s blend of short rib and chuck. It is juicy and flavorful. It was cooked to my medium preference. They use a really good Widmer’s 4 year cheddar cheese and it’s actually melted nicely. Grilled onions top the cheese and were plentiful and delicious!
.
One thing that stands out is there choice of a bun. They use what’s called a “bialy”. Yes, I had to google it. Some call it the lesser known cousin to the bagel even though it is not boiled before it is baked and does not have a hole in it. I would describe it as similar to a ciabatta bun. I liked it!

This is a good burger! I will be back to try some other burgers on their menu!

The small town of Excelsior has a bunch of restaurant options. I suggest stopping at this one for your burger fix.

The Suburban – Excelsior / Classic

A casual sports bar serving burgers, pizza and beer. Just so you know, I came for the burger. 🍔 If you leave the restaurant not knowing where they get their beef, you have not looked at the menu.

Their beef is Peterson Limousin Beef from Peterson Crafts Meats, which is sourced locally out of Osceola, WI. The beef from this grass fed breed of cattle is known to be leaner and more flavorful than the more plentiful Angus beef. I would agree!
.
This beef was juicy, flavorful and had a nice char on it. I chose American cheese to cover my patty and added honey cured bacon. Both great choices in my opinion. A slice of raw onion was added on top of the patty, chopped iceberg lettuce and little chunks of pickles go on the bottom. I liked the little pickle chunks.
.
They slather some “burb” sauce on the top bun, which is fantastic! I’m happy I got some on the side as well for my fries. The bun is a good, soft, toasted brioche type bun.
.
I highly recommend taking the short trek out to The Suburban in Excelsior for a really good burger! Keep an eye out for their many different burger specials as well!

Looking for a totally different burger experience? I’ve got one for you, and it’s a really, really good one! Do I have your attention? There are a lot of reasons to head over to the East side of St. Paul for some great food. After today, I have yet another one!

Cook - St. Paul / Spicy Korean Burger - 4 1/2 out of 5 stars!
.
After a bite or two, the bold flavors will grab your taste buds and won’t let them go. You certainly won’t want them to either. The beef is the ever popular Peterson Limousin Beef blended with their incredibly flavorful Korean spices. The beef patty is topped with beautifully melted cheddar cheese.
.
On top of that is what they call Daikon slaw and spicy mayo. Daikon is a Japanese radish that looks like a white carrot. It is nothing like the radishes we think of. It’s crisp and fresh and can be a little spicy. The slaw has a sweetness to it and cools off the spicy Daikon and the beef blend perfectly. It is delicious!

The bun is soft and lightly toasted and the perfect compliment to this masterpiece of flavors. I do want to emphasize that this creation is not too hot at all. The spiciness refers to the flavors, not the heat. Don’t be afraid of that.

This burger is so different and incredible! I definitely recommend this burger experience. You will love it! I do!

When you know it will be the most expensive burger you’ve ever had, what goes through your mind? I was joking around saying “I hope it’s at least a double patty for this kind of cash”! Well, it was one heck of a double patty and I’ll even use the word Epic!

Manny’s Steakhouse - Minneapolis / Manny’s Burger

I always get the filet mignon at my favorite steakhouse, but tonight we came for the burger. Their lineup of beef is unmatched. The burger was no exception. These 1/2 pound patties are enormous and incredible. There is no question that the beef is the star of this show. 😎

All I can say is perfect! The beef was perfectly cooked, incredibly juicy and had ridiculous flavor. If a pound, or something close to that, of beef isn’t enough, they throw on some delicious short ribs on both patties. Mushrooms top the patty and then they pile on a whole lot of haystack type onions. It’s an impressive burger display. 🍔

It’s the first time in a very long time I’ve had a hamburger and not a cheeseburger. Would I have liked cheese and a really good, flavorful mayo? Of course, but I do understand that they don’t want any distractions from the phenomenal beef. A nice brioche type bun holds this monster.

Is it worth the price? I’d have to say so! It’s quite the Burger experience. I certainly enjoyed it.

Ordered the Burger at @thebirdrocks and was very, very underwhelmed. Luckily the Smoked Salmon Bagel saved me from utter disappointment. Chewy bagel, high quality salmon and perfectly seasoned herbed cream cheese spread

Just over a year ago, I read a Star Tribune article on Nicole Curtis from the HGTV show, Rehab Addict. In the article, Nicole states one of the reasons she still comes back to Minneapolis is that she loves Barbette. How’s that for a tip? 😉

Barbette - Minneapolis / Royale with Cheese

Don’t go here looking for a good ole’ double cheeseburger with American cheese. This burger is distinctly French. Even their Peterson Limousin beef has a French heritage. Limousin cattle were first exported from France to the US back in the 60’s. They get their beef from Peterson Craftman Meats out of Osceola, WI.
.
The beef was cooked perfectly, was juicy and flavorful. There is an ample amount of “Comté cheese”, which is very similar to Gruyère, with a mild, slightly sweet flavor. There is onion marmalade under the cheese, and the familiar, Grey Poupon finishes it. The bun was fairly soft and lightly toasted. It’s not the largest of burgers, so get an appetizer as well.

It’s definitely a unique burger with a unique flavor. It’s a good burger.

The beef, 100% grass fed Minnesota beef was cooked just right, juicy and pretty flavorful. The overall flavor profile is elevated with their choice of the creamy, buttery Brie cheese. Caramelized onions and field greens continue the sophisticated theme of this burger. A couple of pickles are added on the side.

They lavishly spread on their delicious roasted garlic aioli. The bun is soft and lightly toasted.
.
There are also a few other good burger options from the feedback my coworkers provided.
