I’m a teacher. I teach kindergarten, first and second grade. If you followed me on my stories this summer, I posted a series, #summerupdate, regularly. It featured snapshots of my summer - surfing on the ocean blue, sharing time with my family, and spending moments in Chicago, Palm Springs, Arkansas, Chico. Teachers need those moments to recover from the school year, to nourish their souls, to gain inspiration again. I treasure my summer days. But I’ll let you in on a little secret. Invested teachers aren’t fully tuned out. In the back of our minds we’re planning, mapping out, and brainstorming ideas to make the next school year epic. Because we love what we do. We love our students. We understand the salient roles we play in our students life. And we are humbled to be given that role. Teaching is NOT easy. We make hundreds and hundreds of decisions every day. We understand that words can hurt or build up a child. We understand that our actions are being modeled. We understand that lives are being transformed through what we read, discuss, and experience together. We have deadlines, test scores, difficult parents, challenging students, colleagues and ourselves to manage. But at this moment, I’m happy walking into my classroom and would chose teaching again. So, to all the educators, have an awesome year and have fun!
