Here it is folks, my ultimate @target haul! Did I go over board? Yes. Do I feel guilty about it? No! (maybe a little) I am so excited for my first year of teaching, I could not control myself in that dollar spot! I was blown away by the selection and threw pretty much everything into my cart! 🤩 This was after four trips and I have officially cut myself off- someone needs to seriously hold me to that!
Some of my favorite finds include:
Magnetic letters and numbers
Dry erase sentence strips
Book Bins! of course
Get to know your students questionnaires
I can’t wait to use these goodies to set up my classroom and make my kiddos feel welcome and comfortable! I love all the colors I am bringing into my classroom- who could resist grabbing a book for those colorful bins! . . . . .
When one of your middle school cheerleaders comes to help in your classroom over the summer, you treat her to some well-deserved ice cream! It's amazing how much got done today with an extra set of hands! So thankful!
Happy Monday! Such a rainy dreary day here so I’m sharing this outfit from the other day- how fun are these #jcrewfactory polka dot shorts !? Paired Them with a #loveloft beige top and my #lillypulitzer pineapple sandals! Hope everyone has a great day!
I’m really loving this section of my wall (minus my lack of centering), but I need your opinion on what I should use the blue piece for. I’m thinking either post-it note book recommendations (it’s beside my classroom library) or a “take what you need” board. Leave your vote (or any other suggestions).
We have so much to do every day, but conferring doesn't have to be one of the things that stresses us out. These tricks make us so much happier! You will feel really proud and accomplished when you start doing these things. I know I did! I noticed a drastic change in myself and my students. Link in bio.
Not sure how I feel about this being the last day of summer but it’s about time to toggle my teacher mode on. I am truly excited about a new school year at a new school and implementing my Math2Heart curriculum there!! #backtoschool#supportart#artinschools
Checkout my multiplication dice games! I’m trying to make building fact fluency and multiplication skills a little more engaging for my students! Link in bio! #makemathfun#mathisfun#allthedice
The rare occasion when a teacher recognized my natural abilities & encouraged me to pursue them. Saw Dr. D at a few years back & I told her how much it meant to me that she encouraged me down a path that others discouraged bc it wasn’t “career oriented.” Because of her, I think carefully about each word I write on students’ work. So much might hinge on what I say & how I say it. And to paraphrase Cheryl Strayed, we don’t have careers. We have lives. I want my students to have full & enriched lives. Deeply fortunate that my life includes literature. Btw, this paper goes in the “keep” file. #teachersofinstagram#decluttering#literature#life#learning
Anyone else collect these bad boys through the years? @crayola keep ‘em coming! 🧡
Summer playdough 🧡
I usually stick to gel food coloring because I think it gives me the brightest colors, but I used neon watercolors today. It took about a cup of color for each batch to get the vibrant colors I wanted , so I’ll definitely be restocking my gel food colors for next time.
A *small* preview of my To Be Read list My goal is to finish all 6 before returning to school Have others to suggest?
A peek at some flex seating options I’ve picked up recently that hit all my requirements (cheap/free and easy to clean). -

Encouraging Free Range Kids- A Secret Garden Tea Party to Remember
Revisiting some wonderful A Year in the Secret Garden-inspired activities for families. Just in case you are tuning in late, A Year in the Secret Garden is the kidlit book that I co-wrote with Marilyn Scott-Waters and was inspired by the love of a classic children’s book, Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett.
AYITSG is our way of introducing Secret Garden to a new generation of families. This guide uses over two hundred full color illustrations and photos to bring the magical story to life, with fascinating historical information, monthly gardening activities, easy-to-make recipes, and step-by-step crafts, designed to enchant readers of all ages.
The colors, the motivation, the functionality...these are absolutely perfect.
